Brawl Report

We were again ranked first in our last guild brawl (May 26) with only 12 out of 13 frays filled. A lot of players from our guild step up especially on the gold frays as both @papar (Fray 11) and @scroff (Fray 12) were undefeated in gold frays.

Our guild received 21 Crowns as rewards while each of the participating member in our guild received 1,131 Merits. I was able to buy 1 Gladius case after this brawl.

TRAPP FALLOWAY is from Death Splinter with 4 melee damage, 4 speed, and 4 Health. This is a new Gladius card for me. It seems it will be hard to used this card unless there are rules which allows melee monster to attack from the backline like Sneak and Opportunity ruleset.
With only 4 Health, it is not advisable to be used as a Tank given that this monster can be easily taken down. We want this monster to stack up its Bloodlust effect as much as possible so placing it in the first position is not ideal.

LIZA FOX is a Gladiator from Death Splinter with 4 range damage, 3 speed, and 5 Health. This is a good addition for backline monsters with high damage. Although it did not have any additional ability aside from Bloodlust, I still think it can be a good card to have in any line-up since its high damage will help easily defeat enemy monsters.

RELENOR CLEAVER is a Gladiator from Water Splinter with 4 melee damage, 2 speed, 7 armor and 6 Health. This is a good replacement for Flying Squid as a secondary tank with Reach ability. It has a high mana requirement so it will be rarely used especially for a low mana cap battles.

Gladiator of the week

image.png

I choose CAPTAIN KATIE as the Gladiator of the week. I won 2 out of the 3 matches that I used this card for this brawl. Even at level 1, this card is very deadly as it has 3 magic damage and a Snipe ability as well. As we know, Gladius cards all have the Bloodlust ability. The Snipe ability allows it to kill backline monsters easily, which helps stack up his Bloodlust effect.

Since I was in a Chaos Legion only frays, the Summoner available for Life is only General Sloan which gives additional ranged damage to all monsters. General Sloan's buff will not be effective for Magic type monsters so for most of the matches, I tend to used Dragon Summoner Quix the Devious instead of General Sloan especially if I am going for a Magic line-up. The speed reduction greatly helps as well if combined with Time Mage's Slow ability.

Battle Ruleset
Explosive WeaponryAll Monsters have the Blast ability
Holy ProtectionAll Monsters have the Divine Shield ability.
Mana Capacity42
Allowed SplinterFire, Water, Life, Death, and Dragon

Since all monsters have the Blast ability from the ruleset, I wanted to take advantage of it by using monsters which can attack twice per round. Attacking twice will trigger the Blast effect twice also. For this, we need the ability Double Strike.

  • Carnage Titan can attack twice from the 2nd position with the help of Reach ability
  • Pelacor Arbalest with ranged damage can attacl from the backline as well

Another abilities that we can utilized for this ruleset is Snipe or Opportunity abilites. This gives us a chance to attack monster in the middle of the opponents line-up. With this, Blast will hit two adjacent monster beside the targeted monster.

In terms of damage, I preferred using Magic damage since this will directly hit the enemy monster's health bypassing their armor.

This is the main reason why I choose CAPTAIN KATIE as it has both the Magic damage and the Snipe ability.

Aside from that, I also wanted to attack first since that will give us an advantage if we can eliminate enemy monster before they even take their turn. With this, I used two Speed debuffs, one from the Summoner Quix the Devious and the other from Time Mage. A minus 2 speed can be crucial as well.

Battle Ruleset
Odd Ones OutOnly Monsters with odd Mana costs may be used in battles.
Mana Capacity52
Allowed SplinterAll

We had a 52 mana capacity for this match. Most of the time, I used Dragon Splinter for matches with high mana requirement. Since most of the Dragon monsters have high mana requirement. Although because of the ruleset, we are only limited to monsters with Odd mana. If we are to chose any Splinter aside the Dragon, we are left with limited options since there are not enough monster in the Chaos Legion only frays. You have to carefully select your deck here. My opponent used the Dragon splinter combine with Water while I chose Life as partner to Dragon.

Adelaide Brightwing and Legionnaire Alvar combo!!!

  • I chose Legionnaire Alvar as my main tank since in order to counter any magic line-up. I picked Adelaide Brightwing as a backline monster to provide the armor repair that will be needed by Legionnaire Alvar.

  • Void Armor allows the armor of the monster to block magic damage as well. With this, Armor repair abilities are very helpful. This is one of the reason why Adelaide Brightwing is a perfect match for Legionnaire Alvar. Another important ability is the Resurrect. When a monster is resurrected, it will only have 1 HP but all other stats will remain like Armor, Speed, and buffs from Summoner and ruleset. When Legionnaire Alva was resurrected, even though it has only 1 HP, the high armor helps it to survive longer compare with other monsters because of the Void Armor ability. If your tanks have Void Armor, armor Repair works better than Tank Heal since armor takes damage before the health.

While most of the monsters focused their attacks on both Legionnaire Alvar, CAPTAIN KATIE is doing the clean-up for the backline monsters. This helps us to execute enemy damage dealers like Nerissa Tridawn and enemy healer Merdaali Guardian.

Splinterlands is a digital, collectible card game built on blockchain technology. It is similar in concept to games like Magic the Gathering and Hearthstone where you build up a collection of cards, which all have various different stats and abilities, and use them to battle other players in skill-based matches. By using blockchain technology, players can buy, sell, and trade their digital assets freely just as if they were physical cards, and all transactions are recorded publicly and immutably.
