Splinterlands is a complex game and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle that I won because of Mana Warden.
Featured cards
Mana Warden is a fire splinter that costs 4 mana. It starts off with just the shield ward which gives the shield ability to the monster in front of it. It learns impede at level 4, and piercing at level 10. I have this card at level 1 so it only has a shield ward, but I still think it has its place in battles.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is Super Sneak and Little League. This means that only cards with a mana cost lower than 4 can be used and all monsters gain the sneak ability. There is also 28 mana and I can choose fire, water, life, or dragon splinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Tarsa | 4 | Summoner | +1 melee attack and health |
Xenith Monk | 4 | 1st | Heal |
Mana Warden | 4 | 2nd | Shield Ward |
Halfling Refugee | 1 | 3rd | |
Exploding Rats | 4 | 4th | Blast |
Venator Kinjo | 2 | 5th | Reflection Shield and Camoflauge |
Antoid Platoon | 4 | 6th | Shield |
Total Mana: | 23 |
My tank is Xenith Monk because of heal and it gains shield because of Mana warden in the 2nd spot. I have my lineup full of melee monsters and Exploding Rat also has blast with a decently fast speed. My 5th monster is a monster with reflection shield in case my opponent has a melee monster with blast. The last monster is another monster with shield to reduce the sneak damage and delay my opponent while I deal damage. I went with this lineup because Earth and Death are not available so the number of high-damage magic monsters isn't very high.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage. My opponent won't be able to damage me much at all because my tank has heal and shield. So this is a battle of endurance. As all my monsters are melee monsters, I will be hitting that backline and once I take out the 2nd monster from the back, I can't lose.
Round 3
I decided to move to fast forward a bit because not much happened other than me taking out the backline of my opponent. I was able to heal out any damage that I took so the fight is going as expected. I can't lose the match anymore so it's my win.
I was able to win the match later that round as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time played out as expected. It was a little league match so the cards wouldn't be too powerful, and without earth available, I didn't have to worry too much about magic monsters. So I went with a shield monster at the back and front to take out my opponent. Using mana warden to give my Xenith Monk shield was a great choice and it could even heal most of the magic damage taken.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

I like a lot that card, even with cards giving reach like megalodon!

Solid protect ability, with the Ruleset I think you've set yourself up nicely to win, and the opponent's mellee attacks are halved
