Hello Splinterlands Community! It is another exciting week as it is time for the latest edition of Splinterlands Community Engagament Challenge. The challenge for this week is to create a support article that explains the Custom Challenge feature of the game. It is a useful tool inside the game that allows players to craft team compositions, explore different rulesets, test out card combinations and most importantly challenge other players to a friendly match which helps and strengthens the community. I will talk more about the steps in setting up Custom challenges inside the game and I will also share some of the ruleset combinations that I think is interesting and exciting to try out in a match.
Custom Challenge
This is the primary set-up when creating a custom challenge against other players in the game. It can be found by clicking the Challenge button that is found on the top besides the Practice and How to Play button and where the countdown before the season ends as well as the game mode options to choose from.
I will walkthrough each step on how to create a custom challenge in the game so that you will have a good idea on making your own exciting challenge against your friend and also to make the game experience more enjoyable and more fun as custom challenges gives you a lot of freedom in deciding the match you will be on.
1.) Choosing your opponent
The first thing you need to think about is choosing the player you want to go against with. It is the essence of creating a custom challenge as it allows you to battle a specific player one on one. Once the custom challenge was created the opponent of your choice will be notified and once your opponent has accepted the match invite, the custom challenge that you have created will be commenced. It is also important to inform your opponent to accept as there is a specific time limit for the challenge invitation to be accepted.
2.) Allowed Cards and Level Caps
After selecting your desired opponent for the match, you now have to choose the allowed cards for the match as well as the summoner level caps for the battle. There are multiple options for the allowed cards such as Gold Cards Only, Alpha Cards Only, Gladiator Cards, Modern Cards, Ghost Cards and Ghost Modern Cards. It is important to choose the appropriate allowed cards as this restriction can affect the creating of team composition for the match. It also includes choosing the right summoner level caps where there are also options such as Novice, Adept, Intermediate, Advanced and Expert. The summoner level caps also affects the team composition as it may limit the level of the units that will be deployed in the match. It is also important to communicate the allowed cards and the summoner level caps with your opponent so that the restrictions for the custom challenge would be fair on both sides.
Optionals
3.) Mana Cap (Optional)
There is also an additional options to make the custom challenge more spicier and exciting. This can be done by paying 10 DEC or credits, this allows you to customize the Mana Cap for the match and other stuffs as well. This mana cap restriction will also play a big factor for the custom challenge as this limits the units that can be deployed for the match. If you are undecided on the Mana Cap, you can leave it blank and the game would generate a random Mana Cap for the match. It is also important to communicate this with your opponent as the mana cap can affect the team composition that are planned to be utilized in the match.
4.) Rulesets (Optional)
The custom challenge can be more thrilling and exciting by customizing the rulesets that will be present in the match. There are a lot of rulesets that can be choose from and the maximum amount of rulesets that can picked for a custom challenge is six. It may sound very extreme but having 6 rulesets present in a single match would be very chaotic and wild depending on the selected rulesets. This is also the best way to try out different team compositions when the selected rulesets are present in the match, as custom challenges does not reflect the rankings and allows you to become creative.
Since I am a big fan of explosions and action packed matches, I would love to have my custom challenge full of action and good amount of damage exchanges on both sides. This is why I would recommend selecting these rulesets which I think would make the custom challenge more exhilarating and mind-blowing.
The rulesets that I am talking about are Explosive Weaponry, Equal Opportunity, Born Again and Armored Up. The synergy between these rulesets makes the match more exciting as the Blast ability from Explosive Weaponry allows the units to deal additional damage to the adjacent units of the target monster and this is emphasized by the Opportunity ability from Equal Opportunity that makes the unit target the enemy monster with the lowest amount of health. The Born Again and Armored Up rulesets enhances the durability and lifespan of all the units in the battlefield in order to make the match more longer and more action packed.
5.) Elements (Optional)
Lastly, the elements present in the custom challenge can also be modified based on your preference. This restriction on the elements can also play a big factor in the match as it also limits the units that can be choose from and that can deployed in the team. This is why it is need to be communicated very well with your opponent as having restrictions on the elements for the custom challenge may affect the strategy especially if there are other restrictions that has been applied for the match.
My Custom Challenge
This is the custom challenge that I have created to challenge my friend @lumpiadobo for a friendly match. I have selected all cards and the rulesets that I want to be present simultaneously in a match. Since I am playing more consistently the game, I have more units that can be deployed for this challenge. It was a bit one sided match as my friend has stopped playing the game for a while now and I just ask my friend for a favor to test out the custom challenge that I have created. It was satisfying to see all the explosions and damages that was dealt in this match and I can say that paying an additional 10 DEC to customized the rulesets, mana pool and elements in the match is very worth and I am looking forward to try out more ruleset combinations on the next custom challenges that I would create next time. If you are interested to see all of the action happened in the match you can witness it by clicking the battle link below.
