DEEPLURKER - Best Chaos Common Card

DEEPLURKER

As you can see from the title of this post, I love the Deeplurker. Currently, it's the most expensive Chaos Legion common card, and the reason is obvious: it's really really good! Whenever I go for a melee water team, I know that I'll have to use the Deeplurker. And here you'll see why.

Lore

Water.png

Terrifying to behold, Deeplurkers are a poisonous fish that dwell at the bottom of the ocean and prey on the weak. However, they are known to travel to the surface in times of dire need. Many believe that they are sensitive to the balance of elemental water magic and, when that balance is in danger, the Deeplurkers rise to attack or defend it.

Stats

Water.png

At level 1, the level I'll be using since I don't own it, it has 3 melee, 2 speed, 6 health, and the ability Opportunity, which makes it target the monster with the least health. This ability, combined with its high melee is devastating since most monsters with low health won't be able to take 3 damage.

Then, after leveling it up, it gets even more terrifying. It gains Poison at level 6 and Demoralize at level 10, lowering the enemy melee attack. It also has 5 melee, if 3 wasn't enough.

Even though common cards aren't used a lot in higher leagues, I'd love to use it at max level to see its full potential.

Battle

Here I'll show you a battle using the Deeplurker, and a strategy that can be useful. I'll describe it as best as I can, but nothing beats the feeling of actually watching the battle, so in this link you'll be able to watch the battle yourself.

Ruleset

Water.png

image.png

  • Reverse Speed: Monsters with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.
  • Melee Mayhem: Melee attack Monsters can attack from any position.
  • Allowed Splinters: All.

Team

Water.png

Because of the Melee Mayhem, I went for a full melee team, while debuffing the opponent's melee. In case they decided to go for a similar strategy. Also, I used as many 1 speed monsters as I could, to make them attack first.

CardDescription
CAMILA SUNGAZER

She gives -1 melee to the enemy team. Since I expect melee attackers, she's great at debuffing them.
DJINN CHWALA

Thanks to Thorns, whenever it's attacked by a melee monster, the aggressor will also be damaged. Because of Melee Mayhem, I expect a lot of attacks.
TORHILO THE FROZEN

In case the enemy doesn't go as predicted, and instead focuses on a Magic team, I put Torhilo in the second position, as an auxiliary tank. Also, its 4 melee and 1 speed will be deadly in this battle.
DEEPLURKER

It didn't need Melee Mayhem to thrive, but it's still a great addition for this melee team. Especially when combined with the next card.
DEMENTED SHARK

If you saw his battle, you know how good of a monster this is, especially with the Melee Mayhem ruleset. Thanks to Inspire, all of my monsters have increased melee attack.
SAND WORM

Sometimes I don't like using it, because it tends to miss a lot of attacks, but in Reverse Speed, with its 5 melee and 1 speed, it's unstoppable.
DISINTEGRATOR

This monster has Demoralize, which, as stated before, reduces the enemy's melee. This, combined with the summoner will definitely protect me if the enemy also goes with melee.

ROUND 1

  • As I was hoping, my opponent went for a mostly melee team, so Camila and Disintegrator's debuff will be super helpful. However, since the enemy also used the Demented Shark, the debuff won't be as severe.
  • Since I picked the monsters with the lowest speed, they get to go first. The Disintegrator destroys the Sea Monster's armor. Then Torhilo deals 5 damage, and the Deeplurker finishes it up with its 4 damage. A great tank defeated easily.
  • The 3 remaining melee enemy attack Chwala, while taking damage from its Thorns.
  • However, the Axemaster, with its ranged attack and Double Strike, deals serious damage to my tank, leaving it with only 4 health.

It was crucial to have defeated the Sea Monster before it attacked or healed itself. While Chwala doesn't have much health left, my other monsters still have full health.

ROUND 2

Water.png

image.png

  • The Disintegrator and Torhilo defeat the Flying Squid this turn.
  • Sand Worm leaves the Goblin Mech with only 1 health after its impressive 6 damage. Right after the Deeplurker targets it with Opportunity, finishing it off.
  • Chwala and my Demented Shark attack the enemy's Shark, leaving it with only 1 health (after it takes Thorns damage).
  • Axemaster defeats Chwala, making this a 5 v 3 battle now.

I'm very confident since the rest of my team still has full health, and most of the big threats are already dead.

ROUND 3

Water.png

image.png

  • The Disintegrator defeats the enemy Shark, leaving the Axemaster in the first position, unable to attack.
  • Torhillo and the Demented Shark attack the Axemaster, leaving it with 3 health.
  • The Deeplurker finishes the Axemaster off. This is the third monster that it's able to kill in one battle. The Deeplurker is a beast, targetting low-health monsters.

Finally, the Sand Worm attacks first in the following round, finishing the battle.

Final Thoughts

Water.png

  • As I said before, the Deeplurker is a beast. Thanks to Opportunity and its high melee attack, it's able to defeat most monsters in one blow. I really believe this is the best common card from the new set.
  • Monsters like Torhilo and Sand Worm, which are normally hindered by their speed, are great in the Reverse Speed ruleset.
  • The combination of Camila and Disintegrator or any other monster with Demoralize is great, and I'd love to have one copy of that summoner, instead of having to rent her.
