Legionnaire Alvar is a neutral 9 Mana Legendary unit. Below is its full stats from Level 1 to 4.
At level 1, it has a speed of 2 with 2 melee attack, 8 armor and 6 health points. It also has the Void Armor ability meaning any magic attack has to go through its armor first before hitting its health.
At level 2, it will gain 1 more melee damage while also getting the Giant Killer ability. Giant Killer means Alvar will deal double damage to any enemy unit that cost 10 or more mana.
At level 3, it will gain the Demoralize ability meaning it will reduce the melee attack of all enemy units.
Finally at its max level 4, it will gain Deathblow mean if there is only one enemy unit left, it will deal double damage to it. At this point, Alvar has 3 melee damage, 2 speed, 9 armor and 7 health points.
Next lets take a look at how Legionnaire Alvar will perform in the various rulesets:

Finally lets take a look at a wild ranked match I had using Legionnaire Alvar as one of the unit in the setup. The battle restrictions are:
Briar Patch plus Explosive Weaponry with a max mana limit of 50. The Video for the Full Battle can be seen here:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_a03378c4b66517fc5c650ce3a18ad85d&ref=genming
TEAM SETUP:
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Possibilus the Wise | 6 | Summoner | It is hard to predict what the opponent will bring in a wild ranked match. The best I can do is to go with a lineup I feel is my strongest I can filled. I went with Possibilus as I felt I have a strong water team for a Thorn ruleset. |
Legionnaire Alvar | 9 | 1st | As this is a Briar Patch ruleset (meaing Thorn for everyone), I am expecting to face mostly magic or range enemy units. With Alvar as the tank, magic attack have to hit its armor to go through him. |
Tide Biter | 3 | 2nd | Tide Biter is in the 2nd position because it has Reflection Shield and will help protect against blast damage from Explosive Weaponry ruleset. |
River Hellondale | 7 | 3rd | River Hellondale's 2 abilities are very useful here. Firstly its Inspire ability will give Alvar and Tide Biter extra 1 melee damage. Then its Resurrect ability will do one revive when my unit die. |
Venari Wavesmith | 5 | 4th | Venari Wavesmith will give 2 extra armor to all my units. This will make Alvar last longer. |
Djinn Oshannus | 8 | 5th | Oshannus is here for some DPS from my backline. |
Arkemis the Bear | 12 | 6th | Usually I would put Arkemis near the front but because it is an Explosive Weaponry ruleset, I decide to put it at the back to tank Sneak unit and also to give another 2 extra armor to all my units. |
Total Mana: | 50 |
Battle Lineup:
My opponent went with Prince Rennyn, a legendary Earth splinter summoner. I hardly ever came across this summoner before but it is power. It gives +1 ranged damage, +1 speed and +1 health to all friendly units.
My opponent went with a full ranged lineup and because of this summoner, the DPS output of the whole lineup was crazy. My opponent put 2 tanks in front and lineup the rest of the backline with ranged units. In comparison, my offensive output is pathetic. In fact I think I have less than half the offensive output of my opponent.
End of Round 1:
My Alvar started with 12 armors but was devastated by the terrifying ranged damage from my opponent. The 4 enemy ranged units had at least 4 damage each. Thankfully my Tide Biter was there to defend my backline from any blast damage. Meanwhile the opponent tanks are getting hammered as well from my weaker attack. The difference though was even with a much weaker attack, I can still dealt significant damage due to the Explosive Weaponry ruleset.
End of Round 2:
I lost my Alvar early in the round 2 but it was straight away revive back up by my River Hellondale. My revived Alvar has 12 armor and 1 health point. This is what I loved about Alvar and its Void Armor. Together with River Hellondale, they are an awesome combo. Even with such an awesome fire power, my opponent had huge problem breaking through my Legionnaire Alvar. It doesn't even matter if my Alvar got stunned.
Meanwhile my opponent had lost the 2 tanks to my weaker attack.
End of Round 3:
I finally lost my Alvar for good here but it doesn't matter anymore. My opponent lost another 2 more units and the match was as good as over at this point.
KEY STRATEGY
My strategy in this match was very simple, used Legionnaire Alvar and River Hellondale to hold the frontline while the rest will attack the enemy frontline and see who can outlast who. I also up the armor of Alvar as much as possible with Arkemis and Venari Wavesmith. This way a revived Alvar would also have more armor.
CONCLUSION ON LEGIONNAIRE ALVAR
Legionnaire Alvar is one of my most commonly used unit in high mana battle. I absolutely love this unit.
Best position to put Legionnaire Alvar is the 1st position. Can't imagine putting it elsewhere.

Also my guild, The Guild of Kingshaven, is looking for new member to join in. As an added incentive, our guild leader will also be assigning Runi to any new member that can actively participate in brawl battles and give donation to our guild buildings. Runi is extremely powerful and is the only unit that has the Rebirth ability.

Legionnair Alvar is unbelievable strong in combination with a unit that has the revive ability, because of his high armor and void armor ability.
