For most beginners, it may be annoying and frustrating when battling with water especially if the summoner is Alric Stormbringer.
Here's what I used before and have been winning especially if my opponent only uses Alric.
My summoner: Ability: All friendly Monsters receive the Thorns ability at the start of the battle.
First position (tank) (Ability - Reduced damage from Magic attacks) :
For the second and third positions, I use either of the 2 below or both. (both have sneak ability):

The 2 most important support, Wood Nymph and Mushroom Seer :
(Wood Nymph's ability : "Tank Heal : Restores a portion of the Monster in the first position's health each round.")
(Mushroom Seer's ability : "Silence: Reduces the Magic Attack of all enemy Monsters.")

For the last position, you can use any splinter but I prefer Halfling Alchemist : (Ability is Halving - Each time this Monster hits a target, the target's attack is cut in half (rounded down)).
Total Mana used 29.
This guide can be used for mana cap of 29 to 40.
You may remove the 2 splinters from the 2nd and 3rd position but make sure to include the 2 supports, if the mana cap is between 20-22.
Most players that uses Alric will use the magic splinters and one melee tank. The added magic damage of Alric to magic splinters will be reduced because of the Mushroom Seer's ability. Unicorn Mustang will not receive any damages from any magic splinters with 1 damage. It will also automatically damage the tank of the enemy due to the added ability of Mylor (your summoner), if Unicorn Mustang is hit by a melee splinter. Since most of the splinters I've used here are able to attack, you may be able to finish your opponents in just few rounds.

Unicorn Mustang : 0.1
Goblin Sorcerer : 0.1
Goblin Thief : 0.1
Wood Nymph : 1
Halfling Alchemist : 17
Total of 59.3 for 1 day.
Of course, there are other and multiple ways of defeating Alric with any other summoners but here's what I found that's for me is the most effective and can be annoying to your opponent at the same time.
I'm still new at this game and still continue learning.
I hope this helps newbie players in moving to the higher leagues in no time.
