To end 2024 and start 2025 with an epic event for the Splinterlands community, the SPSDAO hosted a free tournament with Rebellion pack prizes. Titled "New Years Even Rebellion," the free event featured a total prize pool of 200 Rebellion and allowed entrants access to all Modern format cards at max level. Everyone playing in this Splinterlands Open Tournament would have access to identical max collections so the results were based on skill and strategy. No excuses!
411 KYCed Splinterlands accounts battled for Modern supremacy. The tournament featured two days of asynchronous play with 14 battles each day. A Day 1 record of 9-5 was needed to advance to Day 2. 174 players managed to make the cut for Day 2.
Top 4
It was no surprise to see one of Splinterlands' most successful players/scholars @charlesftw take down first place in the event with an amazing 25-3 record. Tied with him, although with a slightly weaker roster of opponents, is the affable @thepeoplesguild guild host @bjangles. Rounding out the Top 4 with a clean cut were two accounts on a record of 24-4: @psilence and @maplelicious.
Congrats to my guildmates in the YGG Brawlers alliance, where my @treycrypto alt account plays. Three of the seven different YGG Brawlers guilds had representation in the Top 4, including Nidavellir where Trey plays! Strong showing for the skill and strength of the players in YGG Brawlers.
Top 8
There was also a clean cut with a 23-5 record for the 2nd tier of prizes going to places 5 through 8. @rslnd943 posted the best record for players from my main guild, [KoG] @shield-of-glory. @ank2020 is another strong player whose name I recognize from all their recent purchases posted on X! Looks like all those reps with the maxed cards are paying off!
Places 9 - 14
Finally, here I am in the group of players tied with a 22-6 record. 15th place also had a 22-6 record while 16th had a 21-6-1 record. Ultimately, I was quite pleased with my performance, finishing with the 4th best record in the event on just 6 losses. But in the moment, I was quite frustrated with a few of my "soft" losses on Day 2 where I could have done better with a more conservative and battle-tested strategy.
This event was a lot of fun to play, especially because everyone was on a level playing field with complete collections to battle in the tournament. As the last minutes of Day 2 ticked down, my Discord threads were filled with friendly trash-talking about the final standings. These are the types of events that can supercharge a competitive community!
Although it was an open event where people get to play with all the maxed cards for free, I'll bet some players who got a taste of battling at max level will be more motivated to continue maxing out their own collections. This is well worth the extra 1000 cards added to the Rebellion supply and I look forward to more events like this seasonally. I'll be back competing for the top spot!

I love these kinds of tournaments! Sadly, I forgot to sign up this time.
Well played!
Thanks mate! You'll get em next time.
This was a great tournament! I love playing with ghost cards, it puts us all on even footing. I hope they do these more frequently in 2025 it was really successful and attracted a large number of players! Thanks for the shout-out! Go YGG!
Fully agree, ghost card events are the most compelling from an even playing field for true skill testing!
Brawlers ftw! Lotta fun. Very much looking forward to what 2025 holds for tourneys and competition here in Praetoria. Thanks for the shout homie!
Credit where credit is due, mate!
