BATTLE LINK -- January 23, 2025 -- Day 23 of 365 vs. @thoogen
Better late than never for my Thursday battle in the Tier 5 Brawl cycle for Shield of Glory. I finally got a result in a battle I was looking forward to seeing and wouldn't you know it -- Nidhoggr mirror match! Understandably, it is much more powerful in Modern Silver league, where I play in the Gold Foil Fray 20, than in Champion level competition.
The 47-mana battle had two rulesets: Counterspell and What Doesn't Kill You. Water and Fire were both excluded, so we both landed on Dragon with Life, championing the epic reach Gladiator, Marisol Contuma.
Truth be told, I clipped out the part where I have "Home Field Advantage" from our guild's Barracks, meaning my opponent's lineup is slowed and I attack first on ties! This is huge, and makes winning battles on the road event more important at the highest tier of guild play.
@thoogen is a top rival in our brawl fray and some of my toughest competition, so I was just a bit surprised to see us both bring a similar lineup with Nidhoggr. That +2 speed and execute tactic is deadly on quick, aggressive attackers. They even brought Supply Runner for the extra speed, and it would have worked too, if it wasn't for my Home Field bonus.
That being said, the timing with enrage worked in my favor because I was the first to pump up my Marison with enrage! They missed two key attacks in a row at -7 speed since the Gladiator got up to 11! Marisol, Rage, and Riklauniman each connected on an Execution Kill in the quick battle! I'm looking forward to seeing this ability shine more in modern when Chaos Legion rotates from the format. Until next time...
