Hidden Value Lurking in Your Cards?

in Splinterlands3 years ago (edited)

As with most things, collectors will always try and find a way to make their collectables seem a bit more valuable. The first car off the assembly line, the print number of a magazine, even blemishes from a print batch. While digital collectables are unlikely to have bad print runs, it does appear that there may be other ways your favorite SL card could be slightly more valuable to the right person.

I'm sure many of you are already aware that each Splinterlands card has a randomly assigned 'serial' number to verify it's authenticity and ownership. This appears in Splinterlands as

identifier.png

C3 being the edition - Reward
229 is the card itself - Axemaster
4S3ZO154MO is a seemingly randomly generated alphanumeric code that identifies the exact card and separates it from all other cards with the same monster and edition.

This random 10 digit identifier leaves trillions of possibilities and the same amount of possibilities for unique words to appear.

All of this was brought to my attention in a conversation about a Byzantine Kitty which happened to contain the letters PUR within the 10 digit identifier. I'm no mathmatician, but the odds of that word landing on a Byzantine Kitty seem pretty slim. Now imagine the same being true for the word MEOW.

While this appears to be something of a novelty for now, as I believe that Splinterlands is still in its very early stages, imagine what the collectors value could be down the line. We are already seeing this kind of activity in the NFT space with other games/collectables.

What are some of the words you've found within your collection or even ones that you know about? Do you already know someone who collects cards like this?

It's DOUGLIFE!!! SO glad you're on splintertalk now!!! It's you and me vs. the world bud!

You do not need to put #peakd as a topic-tag ... there is no real benefit and the post is not about PeakD.com so there really isn't a reason to. We are likely the only account to search for posts with the topic tag #peakd so it really doesn't benefit you much. We suggest you use that space for another topic tag that will help your post more and is more related to the topic of your post.

If you talk about peakmonsters.com then we suggest using #peakmonsters

I hope this has been a helpful educative comment.
