Splinterlands Social Media Challenge - Mind the Modifiers

Hello Hive gaming community! I’m taking part in the Splinterlands Social Media Challenge. For this week, I’ll be writing about my progress and battles in the Frontier Format. I play free to play so all the cards I have were earned in the game. I appreciate that even if we don't spend a dime we can still play and win against higher level teams. We just have to mind the modifiers and choose the best cards to play. I have some matches that I won for my post today. They are against higher level teams but I still found a way to win.

⚔️🛡️ 🛡️⚔️

My opponent in this match had a maximum level archon. His units were all top notch like level 2 Great Bear Druid, level 2 Little Sister and level 2 A'lan Musketeer. His Black Widow is maximum level with Poison. Against this, my cards were only good for level 2 archon. My legendary cards were only level one. Inspite of my deficiency, my team was better. My magic attacks were amplified by the archon. Even though my cards were at lower levels, they pulled the win with better team work.

⚔️🛡️ 🛡️⚔️

The modifier in this match was Collateral Damage. The units do damage to each other every time they attack. I thought of a way to minimize this damage. The way I did this was by putting unit with high life that does not attack in between two attacking units. I placed New Beluroc Aegis in between Mystic Scaleweaver and Lunaki Howler. This way, Mystic Scaleweaver will not get damaged by its allies. This is almost the same team in the first match but I put New Beluroc Aegis instead of Water Logged Wizard.

My opponent has a level 4 archon and higher level units. But his units are doing damage to each other every time they attack. He didn't take any steps to avoid damage from "reckless". The match was close and I almost lost. There was some luck as the opponent's units were afflicted with "weary" status.

⚔️🛡️ 🛡️⚔️

The next match had the Global Warming modifier. In the modifier, all units have the Burning status effect applied at the start of combat (At the beginning of round 2, burning has a 33% chance to spread to adjacent units. All burning units lose 2 health. Burning can be cleansed).

I thought I had to do something about the burning status effect. Its damage to all units is more than the damage given by my opponent. My first instinct was to survive. I chose units with high health like Giam Root. I also chose Dread Tafarian who has a healing ability. I took note that "burning can be cleansed" so I included Time Bandit who has cleanse ability to do the job. My opponent did not mind the modifier and chose a team that ignored it. Almost all his cards were at their maximum levels except for Mystic Scaleweaver. It should be a win from him if not for the burning status that did more damage to him than my team ever did.

⚔️🛡️ Conclusion 🛡️⚔️

Like it or not, modifiers are a staple in Splinterlands battles. We should adjust our strategy on the modifiers presented to us. We cannot place our teams without minding the modifiers and expect to win. Modifiers is an important piece when thinking of choosing cards in every match. Master each modifier and it's 50% chance of winning the match.
