Ok, so I'm going to try and refrain from ranting here, from being snarky, or sarcastic even, however I feel like someones gotta say this.
I like the game, as Im sure most of us do, but what did they do to the end of season rewards / rental system, are they wanting to drive people away?
I've seen the updates, I've listened to the A.M.A.s, so that was a rhetorical question, but simply to point out the fact that Splinterlands broke the rental system.
Last season, good, this season not so good. Last season, renters and rentees making lots of moolah, this season, renters and rentees scavenge to make crumbs.
I get the why, but the why does not outweigh the huge community that you just brought into the game who are now leaving because they cant purchase cards and there is absolutely no point to rent cards now until the end of the season, thats what you all did, you realize that right?
I know, you've stated that its because people were using cards, then sending them to their alt accounts and ranking them up and sending them to their other alts or to friends and they rank up all with the same cards and this is why you had to change it to the new rental system. Well, you went from one extreme to a complete other.
Last season we were all making profits, all playing the game, everyone was happy. Renters were renting out, and rentees were renting and able to make enough DEC to pay for their rents and use the cards to do the quests and rank up enough for their end of season rewards.
This season, nobody is making anything, no moolah. People playing are those who have cards because their cards aren't renting so why rent them out? Midas well play with them at least if they're just going to sit there. Then all the new people who just came in to play dont have cards yet, so they were just fine renting them because they could still make a profit from it and rank up and have a shot at getting some good drops from the end of season league rewards, now its like they have no shot at all. They'll be trying as hard as they can to get enough power and cards towards the end of the season, but thats it, if even that. Because why even play if you're limited to playing only a couple of days a month because there is no point in renting cards except for those couple of days a month?
Anyways, if you cant tell, I'm a little salty about it and I know several others are as well. Max level cards just sitting there on the market with nobody getting them because why? Why bother? Go and have a look for yourself!
Are you wanting people to start paying to play Splinterlands? Why would anybody in their right mind do that? I mean given, it is a good game and all, but if you think new players who are just coming in are going to pay to play your game and not get rewarded for it in return, then I just dont know.
Look, I know that Splinterlands feels like they have to do something, I mean, cant just have people and their alts/bots getting a gazillion rewards every season at the end of the season, but also cant have everybody leave because nobody wants to play a game that they can only play a couple days a month due to there only being a couple of days where it would make logical sense to even play it.
So, I want you to know that there is a good balance between the two. That things dont have to be so drastic like they were last season, or so drastically like they are this one. The solution is called a ladder system. People will have to rank up and maintain their rank until the end of the season. Depending on how many people there are in the game playing, that will determine how many spots there are for champion, diamond, gold leagues etc.
An example 👇 (Not a perfect example, but you get the idea)
So, for example, say there's 100,000 players who play Splinterlands at any given time and who are active within the past, oh, idk, lets say within the past month. Ok, so 100,000 people are actively playing Splinterlands. (btw, this would be tallied at the beginning of each season) There are 5 leagues, excluding Novice (if you're in novice, may lord have mercy on your soul, lol), so equally balancing the leagues out, that would mean 20,000 players in each league are possible. Furthermore, each league has 3 ranks, with rank 1 being the highest, so rank 1 would be 4,000 players, rank 2 would be 6,000 players and rank 3 would be 10,000 players. This way people who keep trying can move up higher and get to the top, and if they fall back, they dont fall out of their rank or league as easily.
Anyways, its a thought. I know other games do this and it works for them.
What could it hurt? It couldn't be any worse than it is currently.
There are surely other options as well, I just wanted to present mine here.
So yeah, I tried. I don't like to be a debby downer, but I felt like this had to be said. Its frustrating to go from something so great and so prosperous to something not as great as it once was.
I know you all are excited about the spellbooks being sold, and thats good and all, but if people dont have a means to purchase cards, to rent cards, or to get higher ranked, they're going to get uninterested pretty darn quick. The end of season rewards has got to revert back, or to something else, this is not currently sustainable for the new players or for people to rent cards out.
Don't take my word for it, if nothing is done about it, you will see and find out for yourselves.
Hope you all made it through to the end here. I know, it was rough. I usually don't post anything, like hardly ever, but this was one of those things to where I just couldn't let it pass. People were happy and prosperous last season, and this season, yeah, well, think you know my point.
Wish you all the best. I'm not giving up on Splinterlands by any means, its a great game and I'll continue to play, but I will speak up when I think it is necessary, or when I just feel like I want to :P
Have care ya'll 🤠
It a good idea i wonder if they aim to do that in the future. Who know eh
