It's heartening to see some of the new Reward Card monsters getting featured in Splinterlands Weekly Challenge and no doubt, Phantasm is one of the best cards from Death Splinter to be used when we don't have some front monsters like Haunted Spirit or Undead Rexx due to their odd mana cost.

Phantasm:

Phantasm is a newly introduced Reward card from Death Splinter which is a common monster with useful abilities and we can say, it's one of the best in the category in terms of melee attack, speed and health.

Statistics for Phantasm:

The details for this monster can be seen in below chart with details provided level by level.

Notice the abilities it has!!!

A flying monster with ability to return fire from level 5 onwards and also can retaliate against melee attack when it's maxed up to level 9.

Details of Battle and my Lineup:

As you can see above, I got to battle against an Earth splinter lineup for this battle with rulesets Equalizer(All monsters with health of monster with maximum health) and Close Range(enabling ranged monsters to attack from first position) and the mana cap was 36 with all the splinters enabled for the battle.

I was looking for a melee mayhem or super sneak battle since Phantasm, the monster featured in this week's challenge is a melee monster without reach ability.

And I kinda felt it's health of 7 is bit less to be a front monster and hence, wanted to use in the battle types I mentioned above.

But, when I saw an Equalizer ruleset, I felt, this is the time I battle it out using Phantasm for this challenge.

Here is my lineup for the battle:

Phantasm:

The theme monster for this battle. With 2 melee attack and fabulous speed of 5 and health of 7 (increased to 10 due to Equalizer ruleset) was good enough for the front monster and flying ability made it evade the attack in many rounds.

Phantom Soldier:

Used this as second monster for the same 2 attack but it's a magic attack and speed of 3 makes it among the monsters to attack early in each round and once again, it's a flying monster and have high chances of evading the attack from melee and ranged monsters.

Boogeyman:

While the first and second monsters gives more strength to the attack, this one weakens the attack with slow ability and makes the monsters to attack later than their usual schedule of attack.

Not to forget it's useful 2 magic attack.

Grim Reaper:

First of the 3 ranged attack monsters I used and this one is another of those newly introduced reward cards and is a gem as for as it's attack and ability is considered.

It's 3 ranged attack is best in the range and it's ability of affliction to remove healing ability of the monster it attacks, makes it for potent.

Soulstorm:

Another flying monster with good speed and ranged attack of 3 and one of my favorites from Death splinter.

Undead Archer:

I used this to fill that last slot to complete the 2 mana remaining for this battle as it's a ranged monster with affliction ability.

While I tried to use more of ranged attack monsters since Close Range was enabled, opponent also had 3 ranged attack monsters in his lineup of Unicorn Mustang, Spirit Miner, Goblin Thief, Child of the Forest, Goblin Chariot and Mantoid.

The Battle for Glory:

If you see the lineup, I had upper hand in total attack strength of 13 versus opponent's 10, but, his Unicorn Mustang with void takes out 2 attack from the 2 magic monsters I used. So, it's 11 versus 10 strength.

Round 1:

The ranged and magic monster I used combined well along with Phantasm's melee attack to remove front monster Unicorn Mustang in round one itself and gain upper hand straightaway as 3 melee attack was taken out!!!

Round 2:

Like in first round, we witness here another monster from the other side getting hammered and disappeared.

This time, it was Spirit Miner which got removed.

Round 3:

Goblin Thief moved to the front and failed to attack the flying Phantasm, but got removed itself with those highly attacking monster I had.

Round 4:

By this time, opponent's ranged attack monsters started reaching front position, but, since this was a close range battle, even ranged attack monsters can attack from first position.

Child of the Forest couldn't do much, but perished in this round.

Round 5:

With each monster getting removed in each of the 4 rounds we saw, it was advantage for me and the point to note is that, the theme monster of Phantasm was still alive and battling for me.

This round also, we can see that, a monster got removed from other side and it's Goblin Chariot.

Round 6:

It was just a matter of time to remove the last monster Mantoid getting removed and giving me an easy win and I must say, it was one of the best lineups I used with Phantasm in the front.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

I can say yes because of the ease with which I won, but, I also want to add that, opponent didn't have better deck for this battle and that made my win even easier.

I think I wasted 2 mana in last position by using Undead Archer as affliction ability was already available with Grim Reaper, so, I could have used another monster with 2 mana or 1 mana there.

Do you use the PHANTASM often? Why or why not?

I haven't used this much since it's a melee monster and needs to be sued from first position as it doesn't have reach ability to be used at second position.

But, I am sure, it will be a good bet in melee mayhem and *Super sneak battles to be used at any position.

It's flying ability will be good for it to avoid some attacks from melee and ranged ones.

Overall, it was a good battle although a little better cards from other side would have made it more competitive. But, I enjoyed lining up the monsters for this battle.

Hope you too enjoyed reading this.

Thank You :)
