Silver Dollar Challenge - Death Edition

in Splinterlands4 years ago (edited)

Welcome to Part 3 of my Silver Dollar Challenge! For those who missed the intro to this series, this is a challenge where I've given myself a $1 budget to rent a deck for each faction for the entire month. Each day I'll publish a new splinter leading up to the livestream at 2:30 eastern on Saturday where I'll participate in a Silver tournament to test out my decks (and give away prizes to those who come)!

Today it is time for the Death splinter! Death has been...well...the death of me so far in this game. Even though it's the lone splinter I actually own a legendary summoner in (I pulled Mimosa during my last livestream!), I avoid using death whenever possible. Either they aren't a very good beginner splinter or I simply haven't figured them out yet. Anyways, I exhausted my entire budget here, using a full $1 to get these cards for the month:

Crypt Mancer - 25 cents
Mimosa Nightshade - 19 cents
Grim Reaper (Level 3) - 11 cents
Lord of Darkness - 11 cents
Chain Golem - 9 cents
Owster Rotwell - 6 cents
Nightmare (level 2) - 3 cents
Octopider - 3 cents
Soulstorm - 3 cents
The Gorlodon - 3 cents
Dark Ha'on - 3 cents
Boogeyman - 3 cents

For the second straight day I came back from the market feeling a little disappointed. My death team certainly got a major upgrade, but I left without several cards I wanted. Theorosa Nightshade and Cthulhu were virtually sold out, and the only remaining options were above my budget. I got some pretty good deals on some other Death monsters, so I overspent on summoners. I think 25 cents for Crypt Mancer is way too much with a $1 budget (but still dirt cheap outside of this challenge!), but I wanted to try him out and I wasn't going to use my entire budget otherwise. I only realized after spending the full dollar that I forgot to rent Ancient Lich for a mere 3 cents, so I will have to do without.

Be sure to check out my Youtube videos and join me on Saturday to see how my deck turns out! I'll also be opening $50 in packs and will have some giveaways (free packs!) to distribute to those who tune in. I can't wait to see you all there!

unfortunately death has never been very good. no amount of optimising in bronze/silver will fix that. but when you get to gold/diamond-level cards. then death is awesome :D

but the devs are aware ... so expect them respond in the next expansion to change things up. because fire used to be quite bad too, until they released yodin and then suddenly fire was OP

Thanks! It's good to know that I don't just suck! 😂 I don't think there is anything wrong with certain splinters being more late game than others. It will be interesting to see what they do.

Great series. I hope you don't mind some !LUV

I know this might be cheating a little, but I think you should get that Ancient Lich for 3 cents. The +2 health leach can be a game changer.

I did for use outside of this challenge! It won me a battle with earthquake a few minutes ago, where it was gaining back the health the earthquake was stealing!

So did you rent all these at the start of this season? Will you have all the set rentals through the end of next season? It would be great to see the season stats for a full season to see how much use you are able to get out of each splinter.

I started a few days before this first video was published (so about 1 week ago). Almost all rentals were for 30 days. I finished last season at Silver II. This season I'm into Gold III. I'm pretty confident I will have enough rating for Gold II, but I won't have the power.

Death is the only splinter I ever win with :-) I'm interested in seeing how these cards work out for you.

I'm getting a little better. When I first rented these I was forcing myself to use Death for the purpose of the video and everything. Now that I'm only using them when I believe they are my best fit I'm having a lot more success. They don't seem to be like Earth with Llama or Fire with Yodin where I can just play my best cards in almost any situation and power through. But in the right situations I'm liking them.
