Hello everyone,
ApeOfWallSt here, been a while since i posted on PeakD. First time posting on PeakD and I am ready to be the bad guy where everyone flames and throw salt on. This is a super informal proposal in which i want to lay out all my thoughts before editing and cutting out opinion and sarcasm.
**Proposal
**
This proposal is for Splinterlands to impose a restriction on the rental market for monster cards to be a bare minimum of bronze league level.
Purpose
The purpose of this DAO soft Proposal is to help reduce circulation of monster card assets, improve new player experience, less strain on API, and many other benefits like prosperity and longevity of the game.
Key Insights
Fact 1: The biggest profitable rentals ARE single bcx cards.
Single bcx cards are not only the biggest profitable rentals, but they are the easiest to sell, worth more per bcx than a combine version.
Fact 2: Literally the entire community whines about bots.
Single bcx rentals are what fuels the massive bot farms. Some farms may own single bcx while majority rents them for less than 0.1 dec sometimes.
Fact 3: Card appreciate only happens when there is demand or when circulation is low.
How will the card appreciate if everyone wants to hold single bcx? The value will not increase, but rather fluctuate to the downside without any real demand.
Fact 4: Every day single bcx rental transactions are calling the API.
This drains the API and can be avoided.
Pros If This Idea Is Supported
New player experience will see a boost. The reason being is new player will be able to play against other new players with similar skillset instead of playing versus bot farms in novice. The FRUSTRATION in novice. The RAGE in novice. The INABILITY to win a single game with ghost cards in novice. The worse part? Unable to earn as ghost cards are ghost cards. No earning potential. By imposing this idea: New players will play against new players using ghost cards to get out of novice. New players will toy with ghost cards and with due time, without the frustration, rage, and inability to win a game in novice, there is a good chance that these players will stay. These new players have a good chance of being converted into owning asset and become what we hope every new player to be. PROSPECTIVE INVESTORS. People may say that new players wouldn't be able to rent single bcx cards to try out. New players would be encouraged to actually buy or own assets if they see a card they like to own. People may say I want to support this idea, but I don't want my single bcx cards to be combined or sit idle. Well, one possible solution would be to create "new player scholars" either through NFTY platform or privately.
Splinterlands in the beginning of time, did not even have a rental market. This is a privilege as many games or NFT projects do not even have a rental system. By having a restriction on the rental market, single bcx would not be rented out as low as under 0.1 dec. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO combine, you will lose out on rental gains per day. In return, you will see appreciation of your single bcx almost as soon as this is implemented. For common monsters, it requires 14 bcx to make a bronze level copy which is at level 3. Taking an example would be Gargoya Lion with copies over 1.4m in circulation. Assuming this 1.4m in circulation was all single bcx (its definitely not), 1.4m/14 = 100k in circulation if people were to combine.
Alternative idea as suggested by many voices in the community: setting minimum on rentals to 1 DEC. This will manipulate the rental market into renting single bcx cards AT 1 DEC. At that point, you might as well BUY the cards. This alternative idea ultimately would solve nothing.
TLDR: If this idea/proposal brought saltiness
I would like to apologize if making sense is looked down upon. I would like to apologize if i prioritized the future and longevity of the game over your short term interest of roi. Sorry if i laid out the economics in your face, but like the feds, it will take them MANY MANY months before admitting to recession.
BUT IF YOU truly care about the game and NOT prioritize your personal interest above the future of the game, I thank you for your support.
"Value only retains value if there is a game and economy"
Currently $6,000 daily rentals/ 20k estimated players. DO the math <3.
Thank you in advance for your support and any thoughtful commentary on ways we can improve this proposal as a community.
What about the load on the server that will be caused by all the CardLords like myself combining their cards to the new minimum viable bronze? :D
I mean you would be lowering the card supplies for all of us so I think I could live with a lil delay for a few days while that went on :) but id also be fine with the flat 1 dec minimum for any rental. I get keeping singles, they sell better and at higher prices :) super smart plays
I'm probably not enough of a card-whale to make an impact by combining cards anyway :D
you're enough of a card whale to me <3
If only I could swim
i have like about 20k single bcx in rentals so this will def hurt xD
Sometimes we have to hurt ourselves so that others won't hurt
I was concerned about the race to the bottom from from the start of DEC being an accepted currency for rentals.
The advent of bots coming into the scene of managing rentals have seen that race to the bottom accelerate somewhat, as the view generally is that some revenue is better than no revenue, I guess.
what if we incorporate minimum rental to be 1 DEC to this idea?
example: common card
1 DEC / 14 bcx would be like .07142857 dec per bcx
Id vote for it. The soulbound reward should fix most of the lower lvl bots tbh since most of their income comes from the reward cards and not SPS. The higher lvl bots running up to champ however wont be effected but regardless a minimum for either bcx or the amount they are rented for would be a huge help IMO. Also I dont think its very salty but I also have high salt standards <3
<3 thanks hewitt. Appreciate the opinion. This indeed does not affect higher level bots. But it does solve many underlying issues at the lower league.
What would happen once soul bound is unlocked? It will become another dumping ground of reward cards again. History will repeat itself, but all at once even if it cost dec to unlock. It'll be sold for dec + small traces of profit. Ideally some sort of solution must be set once they are unlockable. I cant possibly imagine what disaster entails without any boundaries(besides paying dec to unlock) put into place for these sb reward cards.
Well I dont think the dump will be as bad as you think. The higher lvl bots will actually use and lvl up the soulbound cards because it will lower their overall rental expenses. I dont think you will have accounts just saving up hundreds of thousands in CP reward cards just to sell in 2 years but I may be wrong.
Regardless something needs to be done about the rental market, nowhere on earth can you rent 5k worth of an asset for a dollar a day. Idk if that means we super over value our cards or we just have crazy circumstances but it would be like renting a car for 5 bucks a day.
in order to have demand, we need player retention. how many new players will actually convert to being daily players/prospective investor if after a handful of games and inability to win, they quit. i have recruited a handful of new players in which they quit after few matches. retention rate of new players needs to have a higher percentage xD
I completely agree and have had the same experience with my friends. I know tons of gamers but they only hate 1 thing more than nfts, cheaters. Ive often wondered why Hive isnt bigger because of how great and easy to use it is but im starting to think maybe folks avoid it and avoid building on it because they know it will become a bot infested nightmare. Its gotta also look fishy when we are at the top of the dapp leaderboards in transactions and "users" but have almost no volume compared to the other top projects.
i've always wonder why hive isnt more well known as well xD
Gonna disprove your "fact #2". I do not whine about bots. Therefore "literally the entire community" does not whine about bots. Change that to "bot farms" and I might agree with you.
Might have missed something but why do people rent single bcx. Is collection power still required?
Would have to see the other side of the argument.
only people that rent "single bcx" commons/rares are potentially bot farmers.
the only occasion actual live human being rent single bcx common/rares is because its cheap and can get the job done fighting against other players/bot farms.
as far as i know, collection power or card level restriction on potential earning in each league does not stop people from farming the game with single bcx cards. joining a guild or using GF bonus is a common way of working around the system.
thanks michael for pointing out those basic questions in which i didnt really quite cover.
this is an idea i would like to turn into a proposal or suggestions, comments, and arguments is truly appreciated.
I don't know what I love more, the proposal or the apology🤣. I will probably lose in the short term(yes I rent out level 1 cards), but this will be great for novice players I strongly discourage any of my friends from trying this game cos I know the frustration in novice will just make them hate the game which would be the case with any real gamers. I understand tokenomics is important but if "Play-to-earn" game is not fun to play it is a 'bigger fools' scam, by definition not opinion. Most "investors" I have found in this space are just professional gamblers not investors. Bird Gang for the real investors, but then always remember this is just a game, not a money printing machine
most people forget about the "fun" part after being immerse with making gains
Yeah, which is I believe we need more reward nerfs. I don't see how our current rate of rewards can be sustainable(very fiati). This is why a lot of web3 games tank. GALA stopping rewards when we entered the bear market was a genius move. Look @ how they are going now. Cutting rewards will piss off all the wrong people and only some of the right people.
Nice one Ape,
I'd be for both the minimum level for a card to be rented being bronze lvl and also minimum card rentals at 1 DEC.
Some merit to both points.
I'm not sure it would improve the new player experience much if at all though. Could expand on how it would?
i think having both minimum level and minimum card rental to be at 1 dec is actually the better idea.
new player experience would improve as new players would not be versus bot farms accounts playing in novice as bronze accounts tends to reset close to novice or creation of bot farm accounts throughout entire systems running scripted teams.
new players will actually get to experience what victory feels like and fall in love with the game.
as ghost cards do not earn anything, new players may decide to invest instead of losing 5-20 battles in novice and then rage quitting. people who do not want to combine 1 bcx may also create 1 bcx starter accounts to scholar out either privately or through NFTY to earn some sort of split income on their assets. this will ease the transition of rental market having minimum level and minimum card rental at 1 dec. this will also act as a better gateway to introduce new players to splinterland than playing with ghost cards and not being able to earn
new players may come across a card they use often to win and fall in love with it and its a card they MUST own.
for instance can be Allie when she first started testing out SPL and fell in love with curse windeku.

I prefer the 1 DEC minimum to be implemented first rather than card level minimums, then the market can simply work it out. You have the problem of say, perhaps, tough level 1 rares, epics or legendaries. That's why in a nutshell I prefer the 1 DEC rental minimum to let the market decide how much a card should be leveled up to be rented and perhaps just as important to make transactions in the rental market a minimum to avoid a spring to the bottom including these level 1 spam rentals.
thank you for your input!
my question would be would single bcx truly rent for 1 dec minimum tho? i think implementing a level minimum rather than 1 dec minimum is better because 1 DEC minimum can be manipulated. Suddenly there will be outcries of people complaining that rentals are expensive as single bcx is 1 DEC. If at peg, would anyone pay 1 DEC to rent a 1 bcx card worth 1 penny or possibly less? would anyone right now rent 1 bcx common for 1 DEC?
i learned today that 0.1 dec was not the minimum. i always thought that was bare minimum to even be put onto the rental market.
at bronze level, common, rares, epics, and legendary is as follows 3, 2, 2, 1
in which bronze would need 14 bcx, 5 bcx, 4 bcx, and 1 bcx.
setting 1 DEC rental as minimum would not improve circulation or the thousand of api interaction for single bcx cards.
we have impose card level restriction for full earning potential, cp restriction, etc but at the end of the gf bonus and guild bonus became the ultimate workaround these restrictions.
Yeah, that's also a solid point. We also could have level 2 commons renting for 0.10 or less as they are right now. While leveling up cards is a bit of an accomplishment, it's not "the end of a significant accomplishment." Can it be manipulated--yes it could, for more value for the buyer/renter, but at least there is a floor for transaction value. At one point before the season started this year there were like 17 cards that were maxed out renting for less than 1 DEC/day. Of course that is a bait and switch price (never intended to stick to this if rented more than 2 days), and a pure waste of time for whoever rented them at this price, which will be corrected when season rentals are implemented.
incorporating mini level and min price seems like a better idea
