Hello, splinter-folks. I hope you all are doing well.
Today, I will share a battle I recently fought. I am finally back in the Silver II League in the Modern Leagues. Of course, the better strategist won, as both parties had some unique monsters.
Without further ado, let's begin!
Battle Conditions
The mana cap is 32 and there are 3 summoners to choose from: Fire, Nature, and Death.
Battle Rules:-
- Earthquake: Non-flying units take a physical damage of 2 at the start of the round starting from round 2.
- Beefcakes: Monsters with 5 HP and above can be used only.
Keeping the mana cap, available summoners, and battle rules in mind I decided to go with the Death summoner’s aid as it can give me a vast library of choices for the monsters I want to use. T pairing them with the debuffs of the summoner and the high-speed monsters, I saw an opportunity.
Battle Details
Let’s start from my side:
Summoner: Thaddius Brood(Ability: Decrease in HP and Magic damage by 1 for all enemy monsters)(Level 5).
Tank: Cursed Windeku(Ability: Thorns, Heal).
Melee Attackers: Arachne Thug(Ability: Reach, Trample), Silent Sha-vi(Ability: Sneak, Cripple).
Non-Attackers: Riftwing(Ability: Flying, Scavenge, Back Fire).
Ranged Attackers: Dhampir Stalker(Ability: True Strike, Deathblow).
My strategy was to hit him from the front while I tried to do a small damage from the back. I chose a tank that had the heal ability, that way it could sustain high damage and regain some of the HP lost and also picked up monsters that would survive at least 3 rounds. Lastly, I used Riftwing, a non-attacker that had both flying and scavenge ability. That way, it would both survive and take up an HP each time a monster on either side would fall. It was a risk to use a monster that would not attack which is why I decided to place it before my ranged attacker. That way, it was sure to survive.
My overall damage per round is 15 with 3 healing.
Now, for the opposition's turn.
Summoner: Thaddius Brood(Ability: Decrease in HP and Magic damage by 1 for all enemy monsters)(Level 1).
Tank: Halfling Refugee(Ability: Weary).
Blocked Attacker: Pelacor Deceiver(Ability: Flying).
Non-Attacker: Rigtwing(Ability: Flying, Scavenge).
Magic Attackers: Skok Duskblight(Ability: Weapons Training), Helheim Demon(Ability: Flying, Taunt).
His strategy was to have as many monsters with flying abilities as possible, that way they all would not take the damage from Battle Rules. He used a tank that he was sure to lose but through that, he wanted to further increase his Riftwing's HP. He also knew that within 3-4 rounds, all my monsters would fall since they were going to be composed of 6-7 HP at max since the mana cap is a bit low for the tanky monsters which is why he prioritized monsters with flying ability.
His overall damage per round is 8. After his tank falls, it would come it 7 per round.
Major Events
At the start of the round, his overall damage was cut by 3 thanks to my summoners's ability.
In the second third of the round, his tank fell after it hit my tank and got the thorns.
At the beginning of the round, his monster's taunt ability cost him another ally and so the game the game turned into a 5 v 3.
At the end of the first half, his secondary tank fell which further cut his overall damage while most of my units were on the brink of collapse.
At the end of the second half, his Riftwing fell leaving his star monster to fend for itself against 4 monsters.
At the start of the round, his unique monster fell while the rest of my monsters, except Riftwing, were at their limit.
Results
This was the first time in a long while since I've seen a Skok being used. He had a good strategy but if only he had used a good tank and a supporting melee attacker behind it that would do good damage I would've been in serious trouble since almost all my units were suffering from the battle rules.
