I only started playing Splinterlands last week and everything still feels new to me. I finished the tutorial in the campaign mode slowly, reading each popping up tips as I go. At first, I felt lost. I had some background on card games as I played Hearthstone before but I also knew this game is different and would take time to understand.
After the campaign, I tried a few Frontier battles and explored the site more. I looked at the cards, the market, posts, and even Land. I also looked occassionally on the Splinterlands Support site. Did you know that exist? Anyways, even if I did not fully understand all parts of the game yet and I still feel shy about joining a guild and Discord, I am now just learning at my own snail's pace.
Learning the Basics One Step at a Time
My path to power started with learning the basics instead of trying to win. I mean, like I said, this is only my second week of playing. I focused on understanding the different abilities and modifiers that I may come across. I learned that Frontier Mode only have selected number of cards you can use so it's a good way to fight other players while slowly learning the game.
Right now, I am focusing on crafting teams in theory slowly. I even found out something interesting, a team that lets me win each match under a certain condition. I am planning to make this a post in the future so I am not sharing anything about it today. You just have to wait for it to find out.
Now, because I played Hearthstone Battlegrounds before, some ideas felt familiar. Battles and strategy reminded me of that game. Still, Splinterlands feels deeper in many ways. I had to unlearn some habits and learn some new ones as well.
From Campaign Mode to Frontier Mode
Campaign Mode was my real starting point in Splinterlands. It felt like a safe space where I could learn without pressure since you're against a computer instead of a real person. Each lesson taught me basic game mechanics step by step. I liked that I could make mistakes and not feel ashamed as well.
What helped me most was getting free cards from finishing the campaign. I did not need to buy or rent cards right away, although I did because I thought Saltwater Mage was strong but it didn't give me that card when I finished battling it. Anyways, Campaign Mode the game feel friendly to new players like me overall. I could play and learn using what the game gave me.
After that, I moved into Frontier Mode. At first, I was nervous because it felt more serious. But knowing that Frontier Mode only uses Foundation cards made me feel more confident. Everyone there uses the same basic cards so it felt fair.
Winning in Frontier Mode felt rewarding in a simple way. Every five wins gave me more cards. It felt good knowing I could grow my collection just by playing. This made me feel like my time in the game really mattered.
What Now?
My next goal was to survive Frontier battles and get to Gold 1. Right now, losing is okay. Each match was a practice, not a test. I'll just have to enjoy myself while I start to get used to this game.
I also learned to stop changing cards too fast. I tried using different combos at the start which made me just lose and confused. Keeping a solid team helped me understand why things worked or failed. Once I think I learned what I needed about that team or battle, I can change the team slightly to know which worked better.
Overall, my path to power in Splinterlands is to be slow and simple but it feels right for me as a new player. I am still learning and still making mistakes every day. Campaign Mode gave me confidence and few cards to play around with and Frontier Mode solidified that. I really don't have a solid concept yet of path to power but I would say do not be afraid to try but also don't rush to win. Enjoying your losses is also part of the game as it lets you improve.
