Hello Splinterlands Community!
Hope everyone is having a relaxed weekend.
Today I am here to share my experience in a battle featuring the card of the week, Molten Ash Golem. Do give this a read if you are interested and support my article if you like it.
ABOUT THE CARD :
Fire splinter is one of the most dreaded archery unit thanks to Yodin Zaku. The Chaos Legion summoner Conqueror Jacek too adds great synergy to archery.
This week's featured card, Molten Ash Golem is one of those archery cards from fire splinter that is quite instrumental in the Yodin Zaku and Conqueror Jacek line ups. Before we see the card in action, let's have a look into the details and stats of the card.
Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: RARE
Element: FIRE
Attack: RANGED
Abilities:
Close Range
Weaken
Demoralize
Molten Ash Golem is a 6 mana Ranged card with lots of use cases.
At level 1, the card comes with 1 Ranged damage, 1 speed and 9 hp. However, since the card has Close Range ability, it can be considered as a solid secondary tank and for battles where melee monsters are not allowed, it can even be placed as a front line tank.
Later on, at level 5 the card gets Weaken ability and by this time it also has 2 archery damage per turn and at the highest level the card deals 3 range damage per turn and at the top of that it inherits one more super useful debuff Demoralize.
With all these utility it becomes very hard for me to play a Fire splinter line up leaving the card out.
For today's battle, we will be going over a silver league battle in an alt account of mine where all the cards of the battle are rented including the our featured card, Molten Ash Golem.
THE RULE SET :
- Mana Cap : 54
- Rule sets :
Fog of War: Monsters lose the Sneak and Snipe abilities.
Equalizer: The initial Health of all Monsters is equal to that of the Monster on either team with the highest base Health. - Available Splinters :
Fire
Water
Earth
Dragon
THE LINE UP :
Position | Card | Mana | Level | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|
Summoner | 4 | 2 | For our summoner, we went with a level 2 Quix the Devious for the flexibility between choosing between Dragon and Fire. | |
Position 1 | 7 | 2 | For our tank, we went with a very aggressive damage dealer, Desert Dragon. At level 2, the card offers us 5 melee damage with Trample and Piercing abilities. It's relatively lower defensive stats of 3 armor and 6 hp will be boosted by Equalizer rule set. | |
Position 2 | 9 | 3 | At the second position, we have a level 3 epic reward card, Lava Launcher. At level 3, the card has 4 ranged damage, 3 speed, 6 armor and 6 hp. This card too is a good secondary tank because of it's Close Range ability. | |
Position 3 | 14 | 2 | In the 3rd position, we have our main damage dealer, a level 2 Chaos Dragon. This is one of my favorite cards from the Chaos Legion edition because of it's Scattershot combined with Blast ability. | |
Position 4 | 6 | 4 | In the 4th position, we have our featured card of the week, Molten Ash Golem. For this battle, we have a level 4 version of the card that is having 2 archery damage, 2 speed and 10 hp.Though it does not have any of the debuff abilities at this level, Close Range ability will allow it to attack from the front and protect the back line archery monsters. | |
Position 5 | 6 | 5 | In the next position, we have super useful support card, Supply Runner with Swiftness ability, 2 archery damage, 4 speed (self buffed to 5 with the ability) and 5 hp. This is one of the most used cards in silver and above for it's abilities combined with decent stats. | |
Position 6 | 8 | 2 | In the last position, we selected another archery card, one of the best in print reward card, Countess Sinash. The level 2 version of the card that we have selected has 3 archery damage, speed and 4 hp.But her core strength lies in the abilities Opportunity Camouflage Swiftness. |
THE OPPONENT LINE UP :
Position | Card | Mana | Level | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|
Summoner | 4 | 3 | For the summoner, the opponent chose a level 3 Obsidian, the go to summoner for heavy magic attacks. | |
Position 1 | 10 | 2 | At the first position, the opponent too went with an offensive tank, a level 2 Grund dealing 3 melee damage combined with Double Strike. This is the card with the most hp of 11 between both the line ups and triggering the Equalizer rule set. | |
Position 2 | 7 | 3 | In the 2nd position of the deck, the opponent chose to select a level 3 Gargoya Devil, a rare reward card with 3 archery damage, 3 speed, 1 armor and 3 hp with Close Range and Flying. This card is heavily boosted by the rule set as it's hp is boosted heavily. | |
Position 3 | 5 | 2 | In the 3nd position, we are facing a level 2 Spirit Druid Grog with 2 magic damage, 1 speed and 1 hp having Resurrect and Life Leech abilities. This is simply the perfect card for the Equalizer rule set. | |
Position 4 | 6 | 4 | In the 4th position, we are facing a level 4 Goblin Psychic. This card is a must have for the Obsidian line ups because of it's super useful abilities along with decent magic damage. At this level the card is having 2 magic damage, 1 speed and 4 hp but more importantly it has the abilities of Tank Heal and Affliction | |
Position 5 | 5 | 2 | Next, we have a level 1 Hunter Jarx having 3 archery damage, 2 speed and 6 hp with Snipe which is eliminated by the Fog of War rule set. | |
Position 6 | 9 | 2 | In the last position, we are facing a level 2 Mycelic Slipspawn with 2 magic damage, 2 speed and 11 hp having Taunt ability. |
THE HIGHLIGHTS :
- Round 1:
In the first round, our Lava Launcher take out the Mycelic Slipspawn which immediately got resurrected by Spirit Druid Grog. But in the very next turn, our featured card of the week, Molten Ash Golem eliminates the resurrected Mycelic Slipspawn getting the first kill of the battle. This was the only casualty of the round.
- Round 2:
In this round, the Molten Ash Golem gets another kill by taking out the last hp of Grund. However, the opponent team struck back as Spirit Druid Grog takes out our Desert Dragon.
- Round 3:
In the third round, our Chaos Dragon eliminated Hunter Jarx and the battle looked very much in our favor.
- Round 4:
In the fourth round, Molten Ash Golem gets it's 3rd kill of the match in the form of Gargoya Devil. However, the opponent team fought back as Spirit Druid Grog sucked in the remaining hp from our Lava Launcher getting it's 2nd kill of the battle.
- Round 5:
In the fifth round, our Chaos Dragon got it's 2nd kill in the form of Goblin Psychic as Spirit Druid Grog was hanging in.
- Round 6:
The Spirit Druid Grog survived the round but victory was just a matter of time for us.
- Round 7:
And surely, we got our deserved victory as Supply Runner finally deals the killing blow to Spirit Druid Grog

DID MY STRATEGY WORK?
My original strategy was to have Molten Ash Golem protect the back line archers Supply Runner and Countess Sinash but the battle did not last long enough to have the card play it's role as per strategy. However, the card got 3 kills which was the most in the battle that shows us how versatile Molten Ash Golem can be for only 6 mana.
Do I like the Molten Ash Golem? Why or why not?
I absolutely love Molten Ash Golem simply because of it's versatility. It plays amazingly well as a secondary tank while inflicting the opponent deck with very effective debuffs dealing decent damage as well.
I however, do not own a very strong Fire splinter and therefore do not get a chance it play this card as much as I would love to. Even though, I own a level 6 version of the card which is max for gold league that points out how I feel about the card.
