He didn't believe in love anymore due to the past experiences he has had. He felt love wasn't for him because every time he gave his heart out, a lady somehow ruin things for him. The last one almost wreck him not to talk about the previous one that declined his marriage proposal or was it the one that left him at the altar before then? He felt love wasn't for him and he is done trying.
The last one showed promise at the start and everything she needed, he would always give her. She comes over to sleep sometimes and they would bond so well. They have almost the same thing in common; love for games, supports the same football club; Manchester United, they have the same favourite food; Spaghetti with spice and turkey. It looked like a match made in heaven and everyone was happy for him that he finally found his match.
It was already 8 months down the line when she said she needed to go and see her parents. According to her, they told her that her mother was ill and who would hear such a thing and not jump to their feet? She was even at his place when she told him and since it was Thursday, she decided to travel on Friday. Coincidentally, a friend of his invited him to a wedding but because he felt his girlfriend would be around, he declined. Now, he has no reason not to go since his girlfriend would be travelling home anyway.
She boarded the bus going to Port Harcourt while he went back home after dropping her off at the park. He stayed till the bus left. He got back home and called his friend who has been willing to visit him all this while but hasn't been possible. He is the guy that wouldn't tell anyone his business based on past experiences and no one actually knew who his girlfriend was. He managed to invite his friend over and they laughed while playing PlayStation after the day's work on Friday. He dodged the discussion every time his friend asked him about who he was dating but in his words, "I don't want to jinx it."
The wedding was in Lagos, so already told his friend to come with clothes so they can go to the wedding from his place. They left the house around 8 am since the Engagement ceremony would kick off at the same time. They got there around 9 and the funny thing is, they started at 8 am prompt. If you have ever been to a Nigerian wedding, you would understand that 8 am usually turns to 9 am but on this occasion, they started at 8 am. He got there with his friend just when they were ushering the wife in. They unveiled the face of the wife and it was his girlfriend who said she was travelling to Port Harcourt to see her parents.
She had told him her parents stayed there to discourage him for ever trying to suggest seeing them anytime soon. He stood up with disbelief in his eyes while his friend was wondering what was wrong. The girlfriend saw him but she kept her composure while going through with her engagement rites. He stormed out and his friend followed him. He narrated what happened to his friend and he was equally shocked but couldn't help but blame him that his "private" life led to this because they would have found her out sooner if he was open to telling them or showing them the picture of who she is.
Apparently, she entered the Port Harcourt bus and stopped just a few meters after the bus had moved. Of course, she would gladly forfeit her transport fare to cover her lies and she wasn't the one that paid for it, so she didn't lose. The guy was never the same again afterwards and several attempts to open up his heart failed.
Love is a risk but at some point in our lives, we would all have to take it. It might work out for some and others, it might not quite work out but we don't have to stop living.
Thank you for your time.

Love is indeed risk but no one would run away from it. Love is biased but no one would ignore the fact that there is no love.
Probably, he has not found the love of his heart.
Exactly, he just hasn't found the love of his life and I hope he will.
I agree with you. Event like this builds character and he would find that spark again which would make him understand why it never worked out before.
Thanks a lot for this.

Thank you, Posh.
Hmmm...This should always be the mind of a writer. No one deserves such in life. Nice.
Absolutely, no one deserves it.
