El haiku es un poema japonés que destaca por su brevedad y abordaje del paisaje natural. Básicamente, en la traslación occidental, se trata de una estrofa de tres versos, con cinco-siete-cinco sílabas métricas, respectivamente. Los temas redundan en una profunda perspectiva de la naturaleza, como una fotografía que capta un instante y a la vez despliega un discurso sobre el mundo y el ser humano.
A wonder of Japan: the haiku
The haiku is a Japanese poem that stands out for its brevity and approach to the natural landscape. Basically, in the Western translation, this is a three-verse stanza, with five-seven-five metrical syllables, respectively. The themes result in a deep perspective of nature, like a photograph that captures an instant and at the same time displays a discourse about the world and the human being.
El haiku original, el japonés, tiene un sentido mucho más profundo, solo comprensible desde su lenguaje y cultura, que no agotaré aquí. En Occidente su apropiación suele ser desleal, superficial y hasta contradictoria, pero su basta escritura demuestra la admiración por esta forma literaria. Como aporte les comparto un haiku escrito por mí, en inglés, que intenta ser fiel a las reglas expuestas arriba.
The original haiku, Japanese, has a much deeper meaning, understandable only from its language and culture, which I will not exhaust here. In the West its appropriation is usually disloyal, superficial and even contradictory, but its sufficient writing demonstrates the admiration for this literary form. As a contribution I share a haiku written by me, in English, which tries to be faithful to the rules set out above:
The Earth dance
around these smoke's feet
they disappear
