Writing About Writing

Some people write for a living, some write 'coz their passionate about it and some write just to kill boredom. I know there are more reasons why people write but I couldn't think of more than the three things I've mentioned so I hope you can forgive me.

There are different type of writers, there's the professionals who write in newspapers, magazines and write novels or books, there's the amateurs who write in schoolpapers and then there's the semi-pros who blog. Again, there are more but I'm not gonna mention them in this article like medical transcriptionists, chat support etc. Wait! I just did.

Just another faint attempt at adding humor in my writing. Something I'm fond of doing.

I do it 'coz I want my readers to be entertained. Do you really wanna bore your readers to death? You could end up in jail for that.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

A man died today due to a very boring article. The author is now being pursued by the authorities to bring him to justice.

What?!

I know there is no law about it yet but legislators could easily draft one especially if it becomes a matter of national emergency.

How so?

Well, more and more people are into writing now most of which have no previous experience in writing except the essays that they wrote when they were still in school. And obviously they were asleep when the teacher was discussing about how to write essays 'coz it shows in their writing.

Don't be a hypocrite about it I know you've read a lot of it in social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube too. Who am I talking about? The grammatically challenged, that's who. Some made you laugh and some got you worried and made you question the educational system of this country. I'm talking about the Philippines btw, not other countries where English is a second language also. We used to be the most English-proficient country in Southeast Asia but not anymore.

What happened? I have no idea but this problem is real and it exist. Hopefully, the newly elected Vice-President will be able to fix it. I'm confident that she is the right person for the job.

Did I just use a serious tone back there. Let me check. Yes I did. WTF! Well, it is a serious topic and it requires serious attention for it to be addressed.

Anywho, let's talk about a much lighter topic. Okay, it still about writing 'coz that's the topic I've chosen to write about. If I'm gonna touch on other topics then I will be forced to change the title or make it longer to include the other topics being discussed.

That's writing for those who slept in class. You pick a topic, write about it and don't forget to make it interesting to read.

Did you notice how easy this article is to follow?

The reason for this is very obvious. All of you reading this write-up are experienced writers and I'm not even using big words. Why? 'Coz one, I don't want you to go back and forth googling words and reading this article and two, I've forgotten some of the big words that was part of my vocabulary for the simple reason that I wasn't utilizing them any more 'coz I stopped writing back in 2006 and I've just recently went back into writing again.

There was a time when I could write a whole feature story of about 800 words in just 30 minutes. These days, it takes me hours and some days to finish a story. Well, the ones that takes days to write are intended to make people laugh. And do you know how hard it is to make people laugh using text as a medium? It's very hard. Not to mention writing at least a 1k-words post that is packed with jokes and punchlines.

Yes, I usually write in Comedy Open Mic but I thought of changing it up a bit by writing an essay in this community. Are you entertained? I certainly hope so 'coz you're still here. Unless, you're a masochist who enjoys reading very long painful posts.

"Oh my God! This post is so boring it's so painful to read. Give me more. Write more!"

Hopefully not. 'Coz then I'd be offended.

I started writing this at 11 o'clock in the morning and had to stop from time to time to prepare lunch and eat. Some people like to read or write while eating. I don't do that, I like to focus on devouring the meal that's in front of me and savor every moment of it. And it takes me half an hour to finish a meal 'coz I just can't win against my personal battle with rice.

Yep. I am what you call a healthy baby boy. Well, not so healthy I'd say a regular body with a well-defined stomach. I used to be slim though before I got married and then I just gradually got heavier and heavier. Despite my wife being a bad cook. It's like a curse for married men, you get fat the minute you say "I do.". For those of you who are thinking of settling down, don't say I didn't warn you.

You're probably thinking this article is about how to write base on the title. Well, yes and no. Yes, it is about how to write but I'm not gonna discuss how('coz it's long and boring) instead I'm just gonna show you how. Learn from what you've read. And No, this is just a way for me to kill boredom.

So writing, a very fun way to express yourself and what's going on in your mind. Don't worry so much about your write-up not getting the attention that you think it deserves nobody gets good at something overnight. It's a long and tedious process and the really good ones paid their dues before establishing themselves as a great writer. So should you.

Im gonna stop writing here 'coz I've already hit my goal of writing a 1k-word essay.
