There are places where it is very bright.
Bathed in light artificially created by humans.
In its glow, the light of many stars fades —
as if embarrassed by the fact
that something can shine brighter than they do.

There are also places where true darkness reigns.
Where the lights of great cities cannot reach.
Then the stars can shine with their full power.
They allow themselves to be seen,
and when our eyes grow accustomed to the dark,
we discover a beautiful ribbon of stars —
the braid of the Milky Way.

Są miejsca, w których jest bardzo jasno.
Skąpane w świetle sztucznie tworzonym przez człowieka.
W jego blasku gasną światła wielu gwiazd —
jakby onieśmielone tym, że coś może świecić jaśniej od nich samych.

Są też miejsca, gdzie panuje prawdziwa ciemność.
Tam, gdzie światła wielkich miast nie docierają.
Wtedy gwiazdy mogą zabłysnąć pełnią swojej mocy.
Pozwalają się zobaczyć,
a gdy nasze oczy przyzwyczają się do mroku,
dostrzegamy piękną wstęgę gwiazd —
warkocz Drogi Mlecznej.
