catching some late summer seaside evening rays

in Visual Shots12 days ago

the southeast end of the park faces the island and the opening of the sound. most of the park is a well kept grass lawn but at the edge toward the shore wildflowers abound. here are a common tansy Tanacetum vulgare with the sea below as a backdrop

scattered around the park are sculptures made from the local stone larvikite. they generally feature a mix of polished and unpolished surfaces and this one is catching the last rays of the setting sun.

to the right of the sculpture the shore is more rocky.at the edge of the lawn are a number of spear thistles Cirsium vulgare that are going to seed

the island with the lighthouse and the opening of the sound make a nice backdrop as the sun sets

looking straight up the sky above is almost clear blue

but out over the sea is more cloudy

there is a short period when the sun has disappeared on the mainland but is still shining on the island and the sea. once in a while we can see thick clouds above that do not extend far out to sea. during sunset the effect of the lighting is magical with the blue cloud, the warm white stripe and the bright island and the blue sea

some thistles are completely finished

while some are full of seeds with the fluffy attachments that catch the wind and spread the seed. here the backdrop is a rock slope on the mainland catching the last rays of the lovely evening

I love tansy... It's a favorite of mine. Beautiful photos.

oh isn't tansy a fun one all flower heads and no petals. and such a nice scent. it's fairly common here but not like where i grew up in massachusetts. september roadsides and meadows blooming with tansy and a mix of different goldenrods and asters just as the leaves were turning...

It grows abundantly further north of me, and I have gathered seeds and brought them home and planted them in the flower border along the drive, and occasionally it will come back, but not reliably. This year I don't have any growing and I miss it.

that's too bad. !INDEED
i have heard about people planting it in their garden and it spreading too aggressively. at least you don't have that problem. must be the climate because they can thrive in almost any soil.

It probably doesn't get the required amount of sunlight here in the woods.

Greetings from here. Those spores definitely travelled early to new places. I like nature photography very much. I think they have a very ephemeral beauty.

thanks a lot. i mostly photograph nature. there is so much beauty both in the grand scale and in the minute details
