Les Lapidiales (part 3) - Lightpainting on Hive

in Visual Shots9 hours ago

Hi,

Last year in November, I was looking for underground quarries in Charentes, along the river. I met a friend of mine and we spotted several suitable locations to spend the night beneath the surface.

But, we heard about a place named the Lapidiales : back in the days, local farmers were used to work as quarrymen a part of the year for extra salary and quarrymen were working in the fields for the same reason. This created an exchange and a stone culture in the area, that's why the Lapidiales project naturally took place here. Local elected officials saw a good way to reconnect local people to the memory of the quarry exploitation, and a great way to project it in a great future.
The site is now a open air quarry where sculptors from all over the world are invited to work stone the way they want, in front of the public.

As we saw the Galaxie des Pierres Levées (Galaxy of Standing Stones) and the Lapidiales, we forgot everything we saw before and we decided to focus on that.

Our first trip was cool but we wanted more. We came back last summer with this unique goal : exploring the site the more we could and spend several hours at night to do lightpainting.

Here's the last picture I made at the end of the session, in my classic style and color combination :

WHAT IS LIGHTPAINTING?

Lightpainting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.

Interesting what you mention about the place in addition to your experience there. Good photo and great color combination. Thanks for sharing with us @dawnoner :)
