Back in 2017, I tossed my camera and camping gear in the car, aimed it at the setting sun and hit the highway. Spent the next twelve weeks meandering around west of the Mississippi River just shooting up the landscape(s).

First stop was Colorado, ended up spending more than a month in that state. Started off in Colorado Springs, which in hindsight was probably a mistake but the time spent there was still clutch for acclimating to the elevation.

That came in quite handy when I left there for Rocky Mountain National Park, which is where all these photos are from. Them mountains were my favorite part of the twelve weeks and I've been fixing to get back to them since I left.

Spent a couple weeks there camping, hiking and shooting, left with a few too many (thousand) photos. Every now and again I like to revisit them, cringe a little and see if there's any I'd overlooked.

At the time, I thought I knew what I was doing with a camera but it was really more of a 'figuring it out on the fly.' Or fucking up until I figured it out. The more time passes, the more apparent that seems to me.

It's still fun to revisit the photos, lots of reminders of what not to do next time. Don't know if my editing abilities have improved since 2017 or if I just edit less, but these are mostly shots I'd overlooked as unusable in the past.

I grew up in the mountains, albeit the much older and lower Appalachian Mountains, but the Rockies really grew on me. There's just something special about being up above the tree line.

That life goes on at all there never ceases to amaze me. It never gets what I'd call warm there and can be a wee bit windy, and yet life goes on.

There's a great deal more to the Rocky Mountains than just what's in the park, been meaning to head back over yonder and explore them more, but things keep happening.

That's probably enough old photos for one day, time for bed. Anyone got a teleporter I can borrow?
