Here in Louisville, we didn't have a white Christmas but we did manage a grey Christmas. Close enough for government work, right? Weird weather, grey and dreary looking, intermittent drizzle alternating with fog but surprisingly, unseasonably warm. Past few days the highs have been in the mid-60s (~18C), so despite its underwhelming appearance, it's been downright pleasant out.

Sunday the mercury is supposed to make it past 70 degrees. . .and then drop below freezing later in the day. That's the kind of weather that tornadoes are made of. Anyways, have been taking advantage of the break in the cold and doing some wandering. Keep ending up in Iroquois Park, these are a mix of shots from Christmas Eve Eve and the day after Santa's birthday.

Was far from the only one out and about enjoying the weather. Sun even popped out to say hi for a second. Made for a nice change of pace from all the festivities.

Judging by deposits of Louisville diamonds near the intersections, there'd been plenty of festivities recently in these parts.

Only counted two wounded fenders, so we didn't come close to Kentucky Derby level festivities. Question for y'all out on the blockchain: do the ghosts of crashes past haunt the roadsides regularly where you live?

Festivities weren't confined to the roads this holiday season, we managed to have three shootings and two stabbings in the span of eight hours on Christmas day.

They're threatening us with dense fog in the morning, should probably wrap this up if there's to be any hope of making it downtown by sunrise. Maybe there'll be some holiday parking to be found.
Greetings 🤗 Definitely not what one would typically think of Christmas, but you're right, you're pretty close. Nice photos, and especially, it looks like little Twin Peaks. Although maybe I'm too biased because I'm hooked on it again.
Greetings! Thank you :) Twin Peaks, eh? I've not seen the show but my friends seem a bit obsessed with it, I'll take your word for it.
The park scenes sound peaceful, even if the season itself feels off this year. It’s a thoughtful reminder that holidays aren’t experienced the same way by everyone.
It was good to smell the woods and walk off some of the holidays. Did it seem off where you are? That's what I love about Hive, just being able to see all the different experiences this strange planet has to offer :) Thanks for dropping by!
Sounds like it was quite the holiday adventure. Love the sceneries and shots 👏🏿
Have to say, I rather enjoyed myself :) Thank you my friend. Did your birthday treat you well?
By my standards yes, haha
I played football and went to the gym, albeit I didn't lift weights.
It was fairly nice, haha.
Louisville diamonds has a certain ring to it. We have plenty of debris in our roads. Then there are the people who set tyres alight in the road, sometimes in celebration (New Year's mess), sometimes in anger: when there's no electricity and/or water for days or weeks
We should probably start putting them on rings :D Ah, the DIY roadblock of choice. It's something of a thing here in Kentucky to burn couches in celebration but that's more a sportsball tradition, hate to think what'd catch fire here if electricity and water were off for weeks. Do the burning tyres get anything other than a police response?
On an unrelated note, I've seen a few stories recently about shootings at shabeens(?) in your neck of the woods, but it was the BBC and didn't really say much other than the barest of details, was wondering what's the context/rest of the story?
Not exactly my neck of the woods, I'm in Johannesburg and that shooting is happening in Cape Town. It seems to be related to feuding gangs.
Sadly, nobody does anything much until people start burning shit, it's a tradition referred to as "the smoke that calls" because then local politicians start showing up to reassure communities that something is actually being done, problem being that there are no quick fixes because the infrastructure was allowed to decay to that level...
Ah, gotcha, kinda opposite ends of the country looks like. Wasn't really sure where you were or where it happened.
The smoke that calls, going to have to remember that. Doesn't sound too different from how things go with racism and policing here.
!!!
Those kids standing up on that stone barrier😯 Are they OK there?
I'm jealous of the weather. We just had close to six inches of snow and temperature was under 30.
Merry Christmas, in any event.
Oddly enough, it's the stabbings that are more noteworthy, we've had at least a few such shooting spells this year.
The kids are fine, the second photo was taken pretty much in the same spot. There's a lower level/bench seat that you can't see on the front side of the stone barrier with a sidewalk going around it.
And that is why I'll likely never live much north of here, can quite do without all that :D
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!

Events look more beautiful in this kind of weather, but snowfall has a different kind of fun. We also travel long distances to see snowfall and go to an area where it snows. We enjoy it only when we are with the Evers family, right
