Direct Current City

“You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy”
--Obi-Wan Kenobi

DC may be a wretched hive of scum and villainy, but it's not the city's fault. Blame that abomination unto the lord commonly known as the US government.

The affliction of government isn't an uncommon one, but it is uncommonly concentrated here. Maybe that's just all the brutalist architecture.

Seems to be a requirement for federal buildings. For some strange reason, in spite (because?) of all that, I'm rather partial to this damn town.

There's always something going on, you never know quite what you might see. Such a unique mix of folks too, you've got the locals and an endless stream of tourists, plus a rather large bunch from the 'not from here but I live here' crowd keeping the political-industrial complex humming along nicely.

Even if you never set foot in a government building, politics is inescapable in this town.

Lots of flags too. Upside down, right side up, half mast, all the most popular styles of getting flaggy wit it.

Pretty sure the Metro (subway) is big part of why I love DC. Peak people watching and so much to shoot, plus it's a lot of what makes the city walkable.

These photos are a mix of shots from visits to the city in 2021 and 2022.

Now who wants ice cream?

I'm sure this photo is one of those that you don't expect and in the end it's very gratifying.

You are correct :) That one is from 2021, when we were in town for a march and rally for voting rights and also marking the 58th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's March on Washington. We were walking up to the Washington Monument and saw him coming up behind and it just seemed so fitting. Later, looking at the photos in photoshop I discovered that his shirt says 'Veterans For Peace' along with something in Vietnamese and it just added extra layers to the whole thing.
