This is an interesting ritual and I feel like it's more useful than New Year's resolutions which I've never seen the point in because if you want to make changes you should make them at the time rather than wait for a new year.

That's right, just as you say, I see New Year's resolutions as distant dreams. However, we must analyse what we have experienced, what we have achieved, what we have learned in the process, and keep what helps us to continue growing and discard what serves no good purpose for ourselves.
