Each day has its own eagerness. // A cada día su propio afán. [Eng/Esp]

And no, I am not going to talk about this famous passage from the Bible, even though today is Sunday...

What I intend to highlight below is a daily reflection, but one that has been known since ancient times.

Objectively speaking, and as shocking as it may sound, there is no other "reality" than the reality that manifests itself in the present and in this instant.

We human beings love to eagerly chase the ghosts of the future while at the same time we torment ourselves and live as prisoners or slaves of the memories of the past.

It is a law of life: No one can be happy today only from memories, nor from the anxiety or anguish of the future; happiness, whatever you mean by it, belongs only to the present.

Evidence shows that people who have learned to live in the present are healthier mentally, emotionally, energetically and physically.

So WATCH how life happens in this very moment, flowing without resistance, and you will realise that there is no other way to be happy than to focus and live in the here and now.

So, when you find yourself caught up in the suffering and frustration of the past, in the worry or worry of what is to come or what will be, ask yourself honestly:

Right now, how many of your problems are real and happening right now?

Surely you will see at least 50% of what you considered to be problems diminish?

So, doesn't this lead you to ask yourself:

What would our life be like if we were committed to savouring every moment with total fullness and absolute presence?

And furthermore...

How can I begin to live fully in the present?

What actions can I take to cultivate that connection to the here and now?

The answer can be as simple as it is complex and personal; for me, for example, it helps to practice mindfulness, to spend a few minutes a day simply observing or paying attention to my breath, my thoughts, sensations and emotions without judging them, without clinging or resisting them.

For others, it often works for them to incorporate small rituals or habits into their daily lives that help them remember the importance of the present, such as taking a few moments to enjoy or contemplate a cup of tea or take a walk in nature, a forest bath or a swim in the sea, feeling each step they take.

Ultimately, living in the present is a choice that requires practice and dedication, but the benefits are worth the care.

The next time you find yourself worrying about the future or tormented by the past, remember to come back to the present moment. Take a deep breath, feel the here and now, and recognise that this moment is all that really matters.

If you made it this far and enjoyed my post or if you have any questions, I'll be happy to read your comments.
