Estoy muy agradecida por esta iniciativa de hablar sobre el arte, ya que hay numerosas formas de arte en las que uno puede expresar los sentimientos, ya sean de alegría, tristeza o incluso para liberar estrés.
I am very grateful for this initiative to talk about art, as there are numerous forms of art in which one can express feelings, be it joy, sadness or even to release stress.
Arte no es solo pintar; en las fotografías se ve el arte y, más aún, en las profesionales. Las manualidades, que son muchas y para mí una forma de artesanía, pueden servir para crear prendas como aros, pulseras o collares. Se pueden crear incluso con objetos que ya no usemos: pompas de refresco, latas, retazos de ropa, piezas de equipos viejos, de objetos de plástico, etc.
Art is not only painting; art can be seen in photographs, and even more so in professional ones. Crafts, which are many and for me a form of craftsmanship, can be used to create garments such as earrings, bracelets or necklaces. They can even be created with objects that we no longer use: soda bubbles, cans, scraps of clothing, pieces of old equipment, plastic objects, etc.
Pienso que hay un sinfín de cosas que se pueden crear y con las que podemos desarrollar nuestra creatividad. El mundo del arte es amplio: también están los grafitis, las estatuas, la alfarería, la cerámica, etc.
I think there are countless things that can be created and with which we can develop our creativity. The world of art is broad: there is also graffiti, statues, pottery, ceramics, etc.
A nivel personal, me habría gustado aprender a tejer. Me llaman la atención esos tejidos que veía de niña y que, de adolescente y adulta, pude usar en algunas prendas. Tuve carteras tejidas adornadas con chapas de latas de refresco, una forma de arte artesanal. Usé chalecos, blusas y vestidos tejidos, que tanto a mi madre como a mí nos gustaban. Teníamos dos vecinas que tejían: Juana, que todavía vive en mi barrio natal, Alamar, y Hilda, que ya no está.
On a personal level, I would have liked to learn to knit. I am drawn to those weavings that I saw as a child and that, as a teenager and adult, I was able to use in some garments. I had woven purses adorned with soda can lids, a form of handmade art. I wore knitted vests, blouses and dresses, which both my mother and I loved. We had two neighbors who knitted: Juana, who still lives in my home neighborhood, Alamar, and Hilda, who is no longer here.
También me gustaba dibujar de niña; eran dibujos sencillos: una casita con paisaje alrededor, un barco sobre el vasto mar azul con el cielo azul, algunos animales, aves, peces y perros, entre otros.
I also liked to draw as a child; they were simple drawings: a little house with a landscape around it, a ship on the vast blue sea with a blue sky, some animals, birds, fish and dogs, among others.
Me encantaba la asignatura de Educación Laboral en la escuela, ya que en ella se podían crear e inventar cosas. Una profesora me enseñó a hacer calcografía con metal: uno calcaba un rostro, un personaje histórico, un artista famoso o cualquier persona o cosa simple. Se ponía una hoja encima de la hoja de metal y, con un bolígrafo sin tinta, se podían raspar las partes que quedaban al descubierto siguiendo todo el contorno de la figura, de modo que esta salía al relieve. Se hacían otras cosas interesantes: manualidades, maquetas, se utilizaban objetos de uso, como un poco de arena si se pintaba una playa. En fin, era una asignatura muy refrescante y relajante en la que podías desarrollar tus habilidades después de cursar asignaturas más fuertes, como matemáticas, química o física.
I loved the Labor Education subject at school, because there you could create and invent things. A teacher taught me how to do intaglio with metal: you would trace a face, a historical figure, a famous artist or any simple person or thing. You put a sheet of paper on top of the metal sheet and, with a pen without ink, you could scrape the parts that were left uncovered following the whole contour of the figure, so that it came out in relief. Other interesting things were done: handicrafts, models, objects of use were used, like a bit of sand if a beach was painted. In short, it was a very refreshing and relaxing subject in which you could develop your skills after taking stronger subjects, such as mathematics, chemistry or physics.
Todavía estoy a tiempo de aprender, de hacer cosas y de crear. A veces hay personas que dicen que no tienen tiempo para esas cosas porque, entre el trabajo, el día a día, la familia, la casa, se les va rápido el tiempo, pero todo es cuestión de planificar y reservar un tiempo para crear.
I still have time to learn, to do things and to create. Sometimes there are people who say they don't have time for these things because, between work, day to day life, family, home, their time goes fast, but it's all a matter of planning and setting aside time to create.
Es como me dijo el profesor de guitarra de la Galería Concha Ferrant, en Guanabacoa: a veces sus amigos le dicen que está flotando porque ve la vida de otra forma. Dice que tiene problemas como todo el mundo, pero de esos problemas saca un toque de humor y hasta fotografía las cosas que menos imaginaba y les da otro enfoque. En la galería se imparten cursos de fotografía y peñas con alumnos y profesores de música. Hay un ambiente agradable de compañerismo.
It's like the guitar teacher at the Concha Ferrant Gallery in Guanabacoa told me: sometimes his friends tell him that he is floating because he sees life in a different way. He says that he has problems like everyone else, but from those problems he gets a touch of humor and even photographs the things he least imagined and gives them another approach. In the gallery there are photography courses and clubs with students and music teachers. There is a pleasant atmosphere of companionship.
En la graduación del segundo curso de fotografía en la Galería, me gustó la exposición; hubo varias imágenes que me llamaron la atención, como las de las aves, las iglesias y los retratos.
At the graduation of the second photography course at the Gallery, I liked the exhibition; there were several images that caught my attention, such as the birds, the churches and the portraits.
¿Cuánta imaginación puede haber en cada individuo y cosas hermosas por realizar? Todo este mundo del arte me hace sentir bien, me da deseos de aprender y crear algo nuevo, y me da una nueva perspectiva en la vida. Así que les recomiendo que desarrollen sus habilidades artísticas, ya que se sentirán bien. El arte es una forma sana de vivir la vida y muchos jóvenes deberían involucrarse más con el arte y así evitar caer en malos vicios.
How much imagination can there be in each individual and beautiful things to do? This whole world of art makes me feel good, makes me want to learn and create something new, and gives me a new perspective on life. So I recommend you to develop your artistic skills, because you will feel good. Art is a healthy way to live life and many young people should get more involved with art and avoid falling into bad vices.
