Obstacles Beware - You've Just Encountered A Capricorn | A Mixed Media Digital Art Project

I decided to create a digital collage as my participation since the topic dealt with the ZODIAC sign CAPRICORN. Several members of my immediate family have already celebrated or will celebrate birthdays in January.

My theme utilizing the Capricorn astrological sign depicts a strong-willed female (of which I have several in my family) that is proficient in multi-tasking and can juggle different projects to a successful conclusion.

She encounters a precarious situation that may threaten her life. For dangerous situation is represented by a venomous snake. The snake can symbolize an extremely difficult situation, an unpleasant confrontation with an adversary, or a decision that might not be in the best interest of a person. Resolving the situation may require creative thinking and application to resolve it.

According to the astrologers at Zodiac.Com, an individual with an astrological sign of Capricorn likes family, tradition, music, understated status, and quality craftsmanship. ¹

I have found this to be true of family members. They are loyal, sometimes to a fault. They love large gatherings and any excuse to get together where they can play music and games involving competitions. They're extremely competitive. So much so that often heated discussions ensue if unfair tactics are suspected. At those times, it's just best to "get out of their way"! One particular family member we can always depend upon to stay in current contact with everyone else and stores their information in case an emergency arises.

Dislikes by Capricorns are almost everything at some point. ¹

Now that is an all-encompassing statement that includes a plethora of people, places, things, and situations over the course of one's life. I can attest that this summary is true as far as my observations of family members apply. I never know at any given time whether the Capricorns have changed positions on a topic or fell out of favor with other family members. It's difficult to keep up sometimes. Being an Aries, I have my own set of issues, so I try to remain neutral.

Many of these family personalities I recognize and have learned to deal with in my family. It's not an easy task. Almost if not on the same level of difficulty as the personalities of the rams of Taurus.

Strengths of a Capricorn
Responsible, disciplined, self-control, good managers¹

Capricorn is a sign represented by a horned goat that symbolizes time and responsibility. Individuals are mostly traditional and often take a serious approach to life and their surroundings. Belonging to the Earth element, like Taurus and Virgo, Capricorn is the last sign in the trio of practicality and grounding. Not only do they focus on the material world, but they have the ability to wield the most from it.¹ AMEN to that!

These individuals:

• possess an inner strength and independence;
• masterful at self-control with leadership attributes;
• make solid and realistic plans;
• are awesome managers; and
• more often than not, learn from their mistakes. ¹

One other characteristic that I have noticed in my Capricorn family members is that several have artistic and/or mathematical capabilities.

Weaknesses of a Capricorn
Know-it-all, unforgiving, condescending, expecting the worst ¹

Unfortunately, according to Zodiac.Com, the Earth element may also make them inflexible and sometimes too stubborn to move from one perspective or point in a relationship. They have a hard time accepting differences of other people that are too far from their character or sphere or understanding, and out of fear might try to impose their traditional values aggressively.¹

Now, those are difficult aspects of their personality to live with.

You have to learn when to hold your tongue and when to drop them down a notch. They will try your patience for sure. But as family, we must bond and live to disagree another day. And then, there are others whom you just have to shake your head and walk away. No amount of explaining or reasoning will convince them that they are in the wrong. This strategy has worked for me these past fifty years.

On the other hand, it's their Capricorn strong suits that I admire. Their tenacity never to give up and strive to be a better individual. I cheer those individuals on realizing that they may venture down the path less taken, but they will eventually arrive at their destination.

Now that was a difficult lesson for me to apply to my personality in dealing with my family.

For my mixed media digital art project, the theme was antagonist vs. protagonist. The encounter took place in the foreground of my project. Please note that all image sources are listed below.

First, I used several free-sourced abstract images as my background. These images provided color and the resemblance of a variety of activities the female protagonist was involved in.

Second, the female and the snake were included to portray the protagonist and antagonist. As you can see, the female has numerous attributes to her credit. A world traveler and business person. She carries a heavy load and is confident.

The astrological sign was the primary theme. I used a simple black and white free-sourced Capricorn symbol I located to be placed as a tattoo on the female's body. I chose her neck to apply it.

Third, I wanted eyes that were bold and daring as the enemies stared at each other contemplating an attack.

Fourth, I included several other free-sourced images to surround the main characters, such as landscapes to accompany the snake. Also, my pure fractal I designed in the fractal rendering program Apophysis 7X, added a landscape water element for the snake as if it had just emerged from the water.

I worked with numerous images to bring the scene to life.

Lastly, I utilized Canva as my design program to blend the different type images. I leave with you my procedures which began with a blank, white canvas. I then add layers of elements in accordance with my upgraded Annual Pro Membership that includes tools to remove backgrounds, resize, filter, duplicate, and reposition items as required.

Perhaps of all the tools, the ability to remove backgrounds thereby creating transparencies of the images is crucial to the blending process.
