Hello dear friends of Hive DIY, I hope you are all doing well, and especially that you are healthy and full of creativity to continue sharing. I'm here once again to bring you my latest drawing and painting project: a mini-portrait of the great actor Willem Dafoe, the best Green Goblin we've seen on screen so far. He's so good that he was brought back in the latest Spider-Man movie. Without a doubt, Mr. Dafoe is a great actor with expressive lines that allow him to play very theatrical roles that stay with us. That's why many comic book fans have imagined what he would look like as the Clown Prince of Crime, the Joker. And that's why I created his likeness on a banknote, first drawing his normal face and then transforming it into Batman's most fearsome enemy. Here's the step-by-step process; I hope you like it.

Hola queridos amigos de Hive Diy, espero que se encuentren muy bien, especialmente deseo que estén llenos de salud y mucha creatividad para seguir compartiendo. Me encuentro aquí una vez más para traer ante ustedes mi último trabajo referente al dibujo y a la pintura, he realizado un miniretrato del gran actor Willem Dafoe, el mejor Duende Verde que hemos visto hasta ahora en el cine, es tan bueno que fue traído de nuevo en la última película de Spiderman. Sin duda el señor Dafoe es un gran actor con líneas de expresión que le permite hacer papeles muy histriónicos que se quedan en nuestra mente, y es por eso que muchos fanáticos del mundo de los cómics hemos imaginado como sería si interpretara al príncipe payaso del crimen, el Joker. Y es por eso que he realizado su figura en un billete, donde hago en primer lugar su rostro normal y luego lo transformo en el enemigo más temible de Batman, aquí les dejo como estuvo el proceso paso a paso, espero que les guste.

I chose a banknote that was in very good condition; fortunately, I have many, so the portraits will continue for quite some time. I took this banknote and painted it white to create a base on which to sketch Willem Dafoe's entire face in pencil. As I mentioned before, this great actor has very expressive features, similar to Nicolas Cage, but he takes it a step further. So I made sure that these lines were well-defined with the pencil.

Elegí un billete que estuviera en muy buen estado, afortunadamente tengo muchos, así que seguirán los retratos por un buen tiempo. Tomé este billete y pinté de blanco para hacer una base encima de la cual dibujar el boceto únicamente con lápiz todo el rostro de Willem Dafoe. Como dije antes, este gran actor posee rasgos muy marcados de expresión en su rostro, de la misma forma que Nícolas Cage, pero él va un poco más allá. Así que me aseguro de que con el lápiz estas líneas que deben bien dibujadas.

As I said before, I'll first try to do the face normally, without any changes, and then apply the Joker makeup. So I'll start by painting with a base color to create his skin tone, and from there I'll add the lines of expression and the shadows on the face to give it volume and depth.

Como dije antes, primero trataré de hacer el rostro normal, sin ningún cambio para luego darle el maquillaje del Joker. Así que comienzo a pintar con una base de color que me permita hacer su piel y a partir de ahí ir agregando las líneas de expresión, las sombras en el rostro para darle volumen y profundidad.

Before adding any lines, I started mixing darker tones to create shadows on the skin, and then used those shadows to draw the lines. Once the paint had dried, since it's acrylic and dries quickly, I began drawing fine lines on the face, gradually adding depth. As you can see, each area around the eyes is clearly defined by lines; with these small lines, I created the eyes, the nose, and the lips of that large, macabre smile.

Antes de hacer cualquier línea de expresión me puse a mezclar tonos más oscuros para hacer sombras en la piel, y luego a partir de esas sombras dibujar las líneas. Luego se que la pintura secara, ya que es acrílica y seca rápido, comencé a dibujar líneas finas en el rostro y así poco a poco iba cobrando profundidad. Como pueden observar en la parte de los ojos cada zona esta bien delimitada por líneas, así con estas pequeñas líneas voy haciendo los ojos, la nariz y los labios de esa gran sonrisa macabra.

Next, I began painting her hair, using a mix of dark colors but without using black. For example, I mixed red with some brown, and for the highlights, I used ochre mixed with white. I shaped the hair in this way, while adding shadows to the sides and chin area of ​​her face.

Seguidamente comencé a pinatr su cabello, con una mezcla de colores ocuros pero sin utilizar el negro, así que mezcle por ejemplo el rojo con algo de café y para las partes donde el cabello se ilumina le puse color ocre mezclado con blanco. Así le fui dando forma mientras que en la parte interior del rostro iba agregando sombras a los lados y en la zona de la barbilla.

Then I add some of the actor's clothing, a blue jacket with yellow thread along the seams. And I go over the entire process again, step by step, to reinforce the details. For example, clearly defining the teeth and adding shadows to make them look realistic. This is what the portrait of the great actor looks like up to this point.

Luego voy agregando parte de la ropa que el actor tiene puesta, una chaqueta azul con hilo amarillo en las costuras. Y voy repasando paso a paso una vez mas todo el proceso para reforzar los detalles. Como por ejemplo, delimitar bien los dientes y hacer las sombras para que estos se puedan ver realistas. Hasta este punto así se ve el retrato del gran actor.

Now comes the best part: our best Green Goblin will become the best Joker if he has the chance. But here, through painting, we can achieve that, so little by little I'm adding the details to transform him into the Joker. First, we give his eyes a lot of shading, basing this somewhat on Heath Ledger's Joker design, so we add shadows to his eyes and give his eyebrows the most evil, cartoonish expression. Next, we paint his hair with green tones and lighten his face with white highlights, but we emphasize the lines of expression with bluish-gray to make him look a bit sinister, and finally, we paint his lips red to create that characteristic smile. We add a change to his costume, and that's how Willem Dafoe turned out as the Joker.

Ahora viene la mejor parte, nuestro mejor duende verde se convertirá en el mejor Joker si tuviera la oportunidad. Pero aquí, a través de la pintura podremos lograrlo, así que poco a poco voy agregando los detalles para que se transofrme en el Joker. En primer lugar le damos mucha sombra a sus ojos, y aquí nos basamos un poco en el diseño del Joker de Heath Ledger, así que agregamos sombra a sus ojos y las cejas las hacemos con la expresión más malvada estilo caricatura. Seguido de pintar el cabello con tonos verdes y aclarar el rostro con puntira blanca, pero marcando las líneas de expresión de gris azulado para que se vea un poco tétrico y por último los labios de color rojo para hacer esa sonrisa característica. Agregamos cambio al vestuario y así ha quedado Willem Dafoe como el Joker.

What do you think of the result? A while back, Dafoe himself said in a video that many people had told him he should play the Joker, and he thanked them for letting him know he had the vibes of a murderous psychopath.
