Today I have the pleasure to bring you another tutorial in which I will be showing you how to make a bouquet of flowers in a vase using fomi as the main material. In the tutorial I will be showing some already known techniques of thermoforming of fomi, which with some small changes can give beautiful results.

The idea to make this ornament came from my wife, who was curious to see how the color combination of pink frosted fomi and purple frosted fomi would look like. And although I have never seen purple roses myself, the truth is that I loved the combination. So let me show you the magic of the crafting world where it doesn't matter if something doesn't exist, because we can make it happen. Let's start with the tutorial...

El día de hoy tengo el placer de traer otro tutorial en el cual estaré mostrando cómo elaborar un ramillete de flores en un jarrón utilizando el fomi como material principal. En el tutorial estaré mostrando algunas técnicas ya conocidas de termoformado de fomi, las cuales con algunos pequeños cambios pueden dar resultados hermosos.

La idea para confeccionar este adorno surge a partir de mi esposa, la cual tenía curiosidad por ver cómo quedaría la combinación de colores de fomi escarchado rosa y el fomi escarchado morado. Y aunque nunca he visto por mí mismo rosas moradas, la verdad es que me encantó la combinación. Así que permíteme mostrarte la magia del mundo de las manualidades en el cual no importa si algo no existe, ya que nosotros podemos hacerlo realidad. Comencemos con el tutorial…

Step by step // Paso a paso

1️⃣ To begin, the first thing to do is to measure the size of the cardboard tube to cut out a piece of plain carmelite-colored fomi. Wrap the cardboard tube with the piece of carmelite colored fomi and cover one of its ends with the leftover fomi.

Para empezar, lo primero que se hará será medir el tamaño del tubo de cartón para recortar una pieza de fomi liso color carmelita. Con la pieza de fomi carmelita se envolverá el tubo de cartón y se cubrirá uno de sus extremos con el fomi sobrante.

2️⃣ Next, cut several 1.5 cm squares of frosted carmelite-colored and plain white fomi on each side. Also cut out 8 small hearts that will be glued in the center of some strips that will be assembled by gluing the fomi squares diagonally and interspersing their colors. A total of 8 of these strips will be needed, which will be glued around the cardboard tube, but only the ends will be glued in an arched shape.

A continuación, se cortarán varios cuadrados de fomi escarchado color carmelita y fomi liso blanco de 1,5 cm por cada lado. También se recortarán 8 corazones pequeños que se pegarán en el centro de unas tiras que se armarán pegando los cuadrados de fomi diagonalmente e intercalando sus colores. 3️⃣ After gluing the diagonal strips on the body of the vase, mark and cut out a semicircle with semicircular edges. The semicircle should be glued along the edges to form a cone, which, after cutting off the tip, will be inserted into the upper part of the vase. Next, some decoration will be placed on the vase in the section that joins the neck with the rest of the body. Some small white flowers are also cut, which will be glued to the neck of the vase, aligned with the undulations of the rim.

Luego de pegar las tiras diagonales en el cuerpo del jarrón, se debe marcar y recortar un semicírculo con bordes semicirculares. El semicírculo hay que pegarlo por los bordes para formar un cono, al cual, luego de cortarle la punta, se introducirá en la parte superior del jarrón. Seguidamente, se le colocará alguna decoración al jarrón en la sección que une el cuello con el resto del cuerpo. También se cortan algunas florecillas blancas, las cuales irán pegadas en el cuello del jarrón, alineadas con las ondulaciones del borde.

4️⃣ Once the vase is finished, it is the turn of the flowers. To make the flowers, their patterns will be marked and cut out in frosted, purple and pink fomi. The pattern is the basic five-petal pattern. Using a heat source, each of the petals will be thermoformed to fold their edges and then begin to assemble the flowers.

Three flowers will be made and, to define their size, different layers of petals will be used, 5 for the largest, 4 for the medium and 3 for the smallest.

Una vez terminado el jarrón, es el turno de las flores. Para confeccionar las flores, se marcarán y recortarán sus patrones en fomi escarchado, morado y rosa. El patrón es el básico de cinco pétalos. Utilizando una fuente de calor, se termoformará cada uno de los pétalos para doblar sus bordes y posteriormente comenzar a armar las flores.

Se elaborarán 3 flores y, para definir su tamaño, se usarán distintas capas de pétalos, siendo 5 para la más grande, 4 para la mediana y 3 para la pequeña.

5️⃣ Wire and floral tape will be used for the stem. Its structure will be divided into 3 medium branches for the flowers and 3 small branches for the leaves at the top. Once the stem is covered with floral tape, the flowers will be glued from the largest to the smallest and from the bottom to the top. After the flowers, place 2 to 3 leaves for each flower.

The leaves will be made by marking their silhouette entirely in green smooth felt and then thermoforming them in a heat source to achieve a twisted and more realistic appearance.

Para el tallo se utilizará alambre y cinta floral. Su estructura estará dividida en 3 ramas medianas para las flores y 3 pequeñas para las hojas del extremo superior. Una vez se cubra el tallo con cinta floral, se pegarán las flores de mayor a menor y de abajo hacia arriba. Luego de las flores, se colocarán de 2 a 3 hojas por cada flor.

Las hojas se elaborarán marcando enteramente su silueta en fieltro liso verde y posteriormente termoformándolas en una fuente de calor para lograr un aspecto torcido y más realista.

6️⃣ Finally, glue the remaining leaves on top of the bouquet and arrange the position of the flowers. Finally, the bouquet of flowers and the vase will be joined using sand and a piece of polystyrene, which will serve as a gasket that will seal the top of the vase.

Para finalizar, se pegarán las hojas restantes en la parte superior del ramillete y se acomodará la posición de las flores. Por último, se unirán el ramillete de flores y el jarrón utilizando arena y una pieza de poliestireno, la cual servirá como junta que sellará la parte superior del jarrón.
