The 3 pillars of HiveUP Europe

This community has a clear goal: Helping people to organize and attend meetups in Europe. But:
  • What does this simple term really mean?
  • How can we accomplish this vision?
  • Where are the sub-tasks we have to cover and accomplish to make the big picture succeed?

  • In our experience it is very beneficial to define a structure of requirements in order to achieve something. It is like writing pseudo-code before you actually start programming something. To define sub goals make it easier to actually start and not get overwhelmed by the bigger picture.

Because of that we took the time to think about the "Pillars of HIVE Europe" in order to build a basic structure where the parts can get perceived on their own.

    Pillar 1: Information

One obvious goal and big pillar of this community is the act of collecting and presenting information related to European HIVE meetups.

We already built ways to accomplish that by programming a discord bot and a script that helps me to transform database rows into an actual map post. We think this is the easiest way to present the data for people who are interested in joining meetups. Go give it a look by clicking the image on the right and then come back to this post. The map post is a proactive delivery of information because the user has to actively check it to see new meetups. But we strongly believe that we need another active way to serve the information.

So the next step is the active "delivery" which is meant to be a subscription service you can activate to get notified when a meetup gets listed in the map post which fulfills your criteria. Right now we are working on that - so stay excited.

    Pillar 2: Encouragement

Without meetups this community would be stall so of course one big goal is to encourage users to organize and attend meetups in the first place! There are various possible incentives we can implement. For example we maintain 2 peakd badges:
    HiveUP Europe Meetup Attendee

This is the basic badge which every local meetup attendee will receive. Let us know when someone attended to your meetup and we will sent it over.

    HiveUP Europe Challenge Cup

This badge goes only to one single user at a time: The meetup organizer with the most attendees of the current month.

But to hold a badge is not enough. There are many (big) things coming in the future but we want to add another incentive with a simple ongoing challenge:

    Organize and hold your
    first HiveUP Europe featured meetup
    and earn 20 Hive SBI!

    From their website:

Hive Stake Based Income (Hive SBI) is a social experiment to bring a voluntary crowdfunded basic income to as many Hivers as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Hive SBI is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content...

You can read more about HIVE SBI in their documentation.

Of course it would be amazing if you would like to help us with providing this prize to meetups. Let us know in the comments!

    Pillar 3: Support

The third big pillar of our community is helping people by:
  • answering their questions (related to meetups)
  • giving recommendations and
  • help them to spread their meetups.

  • This pillar still has to get defined better as it has also some overlaps to the other two pillars. Also here are some exciting conversations going on in the background we do not want to talk about yet. Soon you will hear the news.

We curate and reblog meetup posts like announcements or recaps manually with our account @hive-eu. Make sure to tag us in your post so we can find you easily! Also it would be helpful if you would delegate some HP to our initiative so we can provide a bigger upvote for European meetup posts!

    That's it!

As we have told you before we rely on your input and help to grow the initiative and meetup list constantly. With a more complete meetup list we will be able to serve Hivers all over Europe to find their meetups quicker. We hope to see an organic relation between the meetup organizers and our initiative so eventually a post/cross-post into our community (or much easier a ping of @hive-eu) feels like a simple step of announcing a meetup in future.
If you have any question, suggestion or you simply want to have a chat with us then feel free to enter our discord server!

I hope to see lots more meetups happening all over the place. Ideally most people should not need to travel far to get to one. Let's make it happen!

    !PIZZA

I'll come for yours, as soon as it is getting hot enough to enjoy a day out.

Yesss that would be amazing. There are places where 3-people-meetups could be possible but people are just too shy or do not think about a meetup. There are also whole countries where not a single meetup is held. I think incentives are missing and/or the expectations are too high. We will see what future will bring us and if we can develop a European meetup culture :)

There were 3 Hivers at our open mic on Sunday and I wasn't even there! We have a nice hub of Hivers here. We will try to do some events for others to come along and to introduce new people.

Great plan mate! I hope that more events in the list show other countries that it does not have to be the big hivefest like events to count as a successful meetup. A small 3-people-table is already so much worth it and to plan such a small one does not take more time than one call and one post. Let's work on that :)

    Coole Sache!!
