🇪🇸 ~ Este mes no tuve tiempo para planificar un proyecto de Navidad como en años anteriores pero eso no me molesta, he podido pasar tiempo de calidad con mi familia y muy lentamente figurarme qué quiero hacer en cuanto a "costuras" para el próximo año; me gustaría enviar a diagnostico y mantenimiento de rutina mi maquina de coser principal, y justo me enteré de un sitio cerca de aquí que cuenta con delivery (¡delivery para mantenimiento de maquinas de coser!, eso es nuevo).
🇺🇸 ~ This month I didn't have time to plan a Christmas project like in previous years, but that doesn't bother me. I've been able to spend quality time with my family and slowly figure out what I want to do in terms of “sewing” for next year. I'd like to send my main sewing machine in for routine diagnosis and maintenance, and I just found out about a place near here that offers delivery (delivery for sewing machine maintenance! That's new).
Aunque no tenga proyectos de Navidad para compartir hoy eso no significa que he estado inactiva, he tenido varios proyectos de costura pequeños y renovaciones interesantes; en este lunes tan especial como lo es el "ultimo Needleworkmonday del año", traigo fotos de una tarde de costura en la vieja máquina de coser de mi abuelita materna, a quien siempre recuerdo con mucho amor y gratitud. Este asomo a ese día al menos para mi es memorable, porque la yo de 5 añitos veía a mi abuela coser en esta máquina, que por cierto hoy día se mantiene 100% funcional.
Although I don't have any Christmas projects to share today, that doesn't mean I've been idle. I've had several small sewing projects and interesting renovations. On this special Monday, which is the “last Needlework Monday of the year,” I'm sharing photos of an afternoon of sewing on my maternal grandmother's old sewing machine, whom I always remember with much love and gratitude. This glimpse into that day is memorable, at least for me, because as a 5-year-old, I watched my grandmother sew on this machine, which, by the way, is still 100% functional today.

Hoy día la máquina no me pertenece, esta en casa de una de las hermanas de mi madre y adorablemente quien sabe utilizarla es su esposo, quien regularmente la utiliza para arreglar ruedos de pantalones y cosas simples pero necesarias (mi tía saber coser porque aprendió de su mamá, que en paz descanse).
Esta máquina de coser (Singer Simplematic 245 si no me equivoco) es increíblemente pesada, AMÉ COSER EN ELLA, tiene una potencia respetable pero también tanta fuerza en los dientes que hacen correr la tela, que los tejidos suaves se maltratan; mi tío me pidió calibrarle la tensión porque le había estado dando problemas saltándose costuras. Descubrí también necesitaba un cambio de aguja urgente.
Today, the machine does not belong to me; it is at the home of one of my mother's sisters, and her husband, who knows how to use it, regularly uses it to fix pant hems and other simple but necessary tasks (my aunt knows how to sew because she learned from her mother, may she rest in peace).
This sewing machine (a Singer Simplematic 245, if I'm not mistaken) is incredibly heavy. I LOVED SEWING ON IT. It has respectable power, but also so much force in the teeth that they pull the fabric, damaging soft fabrics. My uncle asked me to calibrate the tension because it had been giving him problems by skipping stitches. I also discovered that it needed a needle change urgently.

Ese día mi tío me pidió terminar una modificación que el empezó, una especie de alargamiento de pretina y luego utilizar la etiqueta de otro pantalón como "parche" para cubrir el área modificada.
Cuando les pregunté cuándo fue la ultima vez que cambiaron esa correa me dijeron que nunca, así que viviré con la duda existencial de si es la correa original de la máquina, la que tenía cuando mi abuelita estaba en vida, o si es alguna reposición con muchos años.
That day, my uncle asked me to finish a modification he had started, a kind of waistband extension, and then use the label from another pair of pants as a “patch” to cover the modified area.
When I asked them when they last changed that belt, they told me never, so I will live with the existential doubt of whether it is the original belt from the machine, the one it had when my grandmother was alive, or if it is a replacement from many years ago.

Ese mismo día por la tarde fuimos a comprar una correa de repuesto, encontramos versiones genéricas no muy diferentes a lo que necesitábamos, problema resuelto.
También aproveché de dar un rápido recorrido por el almacén, ¡hay toda una sección con nuevos modelos de máquinas!, la Heavy Duty rosada de Singer es un sueño en persona 💗
Al final de la visita hicimos algunas compras surtidas de cosas básicas para el costurero de mi tío y un poco de tela rosa para una última transformación de jeans antes de final de año.
That same afternoon, we went to buy a replacement belt and found generic versions that were not very different from what we needed, so problem solved.
I also took the opportunity to take a quick tour of the store. There is a whole section with new machine models! The pink Heavy Duty Singer is a dream come true 💗
At the end of the visit, we bought a few basic items for my uncle's sewing kit and some pink fabric for one last jeans transformation before the end of the year.
