Hello Everyone, this is my first post in the community and I would like share with you all the process of creating a blouse for my pregnant aunt. I made this blouse for her specially because she wanted something quite big, comfortable and classy.
The Pricing And Market Cost.
My aunt saw a ready to wear style that she liked but didn't buy because of the price at #30,000 and her budget was #14,000. I went to a market closely to purchase the materials I needed and the prices were more expensive than it has usually being at a 50-100% increase. Sequin which was #1500 per yard increased to #3,000, Ankara; #5,500 for 6yards, now #8,500, The beast pad, the bias and zip all added up to #2,500. This made me change my initial plan and had to still come out with a good result. I had to do fabric sorting, picked another type of Ankara which was lesser and reduced the quantity to be used. I optimized the #14,000 budget and made the same style she saw for #30,000.
** The Process**
I infused sequin with an Ankara fabric and then added a shiny bias to design. I did a breast tubed 180 degrees peplum
with striped arm style for her. A 2-in-1 gown and blouse design.
I first drew an illustration, even though I didn't follow it through because she had apparently increased more in size, then I cut her upper bodice and cut out the part of the sequin and the part of the Ankara. I cut the breast pad because she complained of not wanting to use a bra as it makes her uncomfortable, so I molded the pad to her current size. The 180 degrees peplum had to be quite long because I wanted it to serve as both a gown and also a blouse as the pregnancy progresses. The peplum length measurement was taken from her underbust to the desired length(25inches). And the waist measurement was her underbust round measurement, which I divided by 3.14 after adding allowance.
I cut stripes of the Ankara like 2 inches wide and 4inches long and I infused it to the arm which I already cut the plum side out for the stripes.
