Hello Needle Work Community members. The tailors, seamstresses, knitters, crotcheters and whoever is in this community that didn't fall into the categories I mentioned above, I greet you all. I have come to narrate my first experience with a sewing machine.
This afternoon, I was scroling aimlessly through tiktok and I came across a video of a lady teaching how to handle a manual sewing machine. I actually scrolled past the video and when I got tired of tiktok, I didn't have anything to do with my time anymore. I decided to go and cook something to eat. Idleness makes me eat a lot actually (hehe😂). On my way to the kitchen, I saw this manual sewing machine that has been in the house for over two year. Actually, it was gift to my mom. She doesn't know how to use it too but the machine had been set up for a while. Thanks to my cousin who has an idea of sewing. So whenever she comes, she uses it.
So, I thought to myself, why don't Ilearn how to use the machine? Even if I don't know how to cut clothes and sew from scratch, I should be able to do things such as slimfitting dresses, adjusting the waist of trousers and the likes. Instead of always having to resort to professional tailors and they end up charging me without even fitting the cloth to my satisfaction, I made a resolve to learn sewing. And I assure you, I forgot about my quest for food.
I've heard countless testimonies of people who have learnt skills on youtube and mastered arts from from youtube videos, I opened the app and searched "how to use a manual sewing machine". I came across various videos and selected one and started following the steps.
First, I got a black and white thread.
I put my white thread on the spool pin, passed it through the thread guide and through the tension regulator. Then, I passed it through the thread pickup and through the needle from left to right.
Then, I opened the bobbing case, reeled the black thread through the reeler, fit it into the shuttle and inserted it back into the bobbing case.
After that, I rolled the balance wheel forward so it drags out the thread from underneath and it formed a loop.
I was really happy because yes i was already getting everything just the way it was done in the tutorial. I felt like a pro.
I then, cut a little material out of this piece of cloth we had lying around. Since I was just practicing, it wouldn't be wise to use a useful material.
I folded the material into two places and placed it under the presser foot then I lowered my presser bar lifter.
I continued to pedal the wheel forward. I was even very careful and did not use my leg to pedal just so I didn't do it wrongly but it refused to stitch.
It kept on getting stuck and tangling both threads. I tried it twice but it kept on doing the same thing. l even went as far as watching other videos in case someone had experienced the same issue but didn't get anything.
I was a bit frustrated as I really wanted to learn sewing. But I haven't lost interest. I am still
determined.
determinado.
So please, designers in the house, if you know what's causing this or why my material is getting stuck, please tell me in the comments.
Thank you very much. Have a good day.

Muchas gracias. Que tengas un buen día.

it seems like you are a person who is very expert in sewing
If you mean an expert in tacking fabric by hand, I'm an expert in that. Lol. This was actually my first time handling a sewing machine. Thank you for the curation
Well this is often common for beginners. Your bobbing and the case may not be of matching size and the thread may not have been properly fixed. keep trying.
Ohh. It could be an issue from the bobbing?
Thank you very much. I'll definitely keep on trying.
You did great dear, sometimes the sewing machine might fail our expectations because some of those who know how to sew don't know how to service their sewing mechiñe, you did great work because when once a sewing machine works very well you can see well too, learning from YouTube really helps a lot of people, I can testify that it makes me who I am today, I learned how to cut and sew from YouTube most time I face some difficulties and challenges, you did nice, keep learning more.
Another testimony on how YouTube came around for you. Thank you very much for reading through. Your comment really encouraged me. Thank you so much💙 I'll still continue to try
You really did great my dear, I'm glad you were be able to fixed it out, keep moving dear.
Thank you so so much💙
Hello @oluchi31 Welcome to NeedleWorkMonday community.
Every week needleworkers from around the globe get together to share our work, patterns, tips, ideas and shortcuts as we support one another. Our goal is to inspire the Hive blockchain to give crafting a try.
On Monday’s we use the #needleworkmonday tag and on all other days we use the #needlework tag without the word Monday attached. We share and post our work directly from the Community page.
We encourage our members to share about their needlework life with us. We love hearing stories and what types of things inspired your projects. We challenge you to put some feeling and emotion into your publications and help us get to know the needler behind the fabric.
Feel free to share photos of your work but it’s optional if you choose to share the steps with us (we do require you share the step process in at least one of your posts for validation purposes). If you just want to needle and share about that time we’d love to hear about it. 😊

Thank you very much. I'm happy to be here.
About sharing the steps of my work, I'm just learning the basics on how to pedal and I tried to share the steps the way I understood them. I'll be sure to do better next time.
Well done. !BBH
