Creating a lovely sequence dress out of a failed project

Hello Hive

Happy New Year one more time to my esteemed community; it is always a pleasure to be here, and each time it is needlework o'clock, a certain kind of pleasure envelopes me. I hope that we will have more entries today, as I have seen a lot of us very busy with the Christmas and New Year celebrations, and a few persons decided to take a blogging break, which is very necessary.

Dedicating time to rest and share some moments with families and loved ones is highly commendable and a good thing to do. On my own part, I have enjoyed some short rest in between, and the new year is coming on pretty well with less work to be done.

Having made this dress for a friend's neighbor last week, I have kept the other part of the fabric, which I had damaged. While trying to make the dress, I made several mistakes that almost ruined the fabric. Since I could no longer use that for my client, I had to purchase another fabric for her and keep the challenged one for myself.

Since the festive seasons are over, I decided to revisit the fabric and see what I can do to save the fabric.

It is an expensive one, and hence I want to make the best use of it. I thought of several ideas on how to rework it before I got some inspiration from the internet.
I remembered that I learned pattern drafting, and with that I can manipulate different pieces of the cloth to make it one whole piece of outfit. Pattern drafting has always saved the day whenever I am short of fabrics.

With this I gathered the pieces that were miscut, recutting every piece of it using pattern techniques. Even the smallest pieces can cut a part of the human body.

After that I started joining the little pieces until I got a complete dress.

One thing that made me happy about this was that the stitches were all covered by the sequins in the dress, making it difficult for anyone to note any joining of the various patches.

I decided to sew this into an off-shoulder dress so that the fabrics will be well utilized and enough.

After that I pleated the remaining organza fabric round the off shoulder.

The dress was ready and came alive.
Pattern drafting saved what would have completely remained damaged for life. This is the reason I often encourage other sew mates to learn pattern drafting aside from the regular tailoring work we learn as apprentices. With pattern drafting and other craft methods, you are open to endless possibilities in fashion designing.

At the point of delivery of the clothes, my neighbor's daughter admired my own dress more than the one I made for her; there and then I explained the situation of things to her and permitted her to her choice of the two dresses. If you happen to be the one, which of the dresses will you pick? ?😜

It's really hard to choose because both dresses would look beautiful on me 😍

I understand why she started eyeing yours because it’s beautiful. Both dresses are nice but I think yours is my pick because of the sleeves. Great work as usual, Monica.

It's hard to choose which to pick from, they are both gorgeous, yea, pattern drafting helps a lot, especially in such an occasion and you did amazingly well sis.

It came out beautiful and fitted in you and both are good to go

These two dresses are so pretty. But I think I'll go for yours because of the neck. Both are beautiful either way.

The both design is still looking perfectly beautiful. I love them both. Thanks for sharing dear I have screenshot the dress

Hi @monica-ene, both dresses are beautiful, thanks to your pattern making skills you were able to make the most of the fabric creating a nice design, I would choose the one with sleeves.
