In Africa, there is this fabric called Ankara. Ankara fabric is a native fabric mainly used by Africans to make different designs. Ankara can also be used as a group uniform on occasions like traditional weddings, burial ceremonies, chieftaincy coronations, and so on.
There are different textures in Ankara fabric according to grades, we have higher and lower grades such as hollandaise, hi target, wax, da viva, etc respectively. We have different beautiful colors and designs in all the Ankara fabrics. In my work, I used high target texture which is also a higher grade and I choose this particular design because I love the blue color. Putting on Ankara fabrics makes me a sense of belonging knowing that I'm a full-fledged African woman.
I didn't have to iron my fabric because is wrinkle-free, so what I did was place the fabric on my cutting table but before going on to the procedure on how I made my outfit, I will like to outline the working materials I used for these clothes. They are Ankara fabric, black fabric, dollar design fabric, thread, black zip, gum stay, and button.
Procedure one: I Cut out the front parts of the jacket and placed the fabric again to cut out the back part of it, I also cut out the neck and the armhole and placed the fabric to cut the sleeve of the jacket which I made tri quarter sleeve. I also cut out patch pockets for the jacket from the black and the dollar design fabric to design it. I proceeded to cut off the shorts, cut the front and the back of the shorts, and I also cut the front pockets from the remaining fabric. I always want my shorts or trousers to have pockets because it makes me feel more elegant each time I wear them.
Procedure two: The next step was sewing them in the machine which I joined the shoulders together, and the sleeves to the arm holes and then stitch from the tip of the sleeve straight down on both sides and then sewed the down of the jacket all around. I formed my patch pockets with my iron and gum stay to hold it together to my front jacket which I stitched with my machine, I then sewed the front pockets of my shorts and side stitched it, sewed the darts, the back line and put the front zip at the flap then sewed the waistband to the short, I made it a high waist short, I sewed the down of the short all round and then did the button hole at the tip of the waistband and sewed my button with my hand needle on the other side of the waistband. That`s all for the sewing level of my apparel.
Procedure three: I placed my jacket on my ironing table and ironed it bit by bit to get a perfect well-ironed work, I did the same on my shorts and in the end, all was well ironed. Conclusion: My work came out perfectly well. Below is a picture of the outcome of my work please do well to comment and let me know what you think about my work. Thank you all.
