NEEDLEWORKMONDAY || LACE CROCHET HAT TUTORIAL

Ladies' accessories on the head/hair has a wider selection compared to men. Depending on the weather, season, the occasion, or our mood, there's a variety of choices women can select from. Each can portray our personality. We use it as part of expressing ourselves. Each piece is used to complete the statement we want to communicate through our outfit. Sometimes an OOTD isn't quite complete without a headpiece.

Today I want to share with you how to make a lace crochet hat. Even though the rainy season has started in the Philippines, being the tropical country that we are, this lace crochet hat is perfect for sunny days. I found an inspiration for this crochet hat on etsy and decided to create my own design. This is the first time I tried creating a lacey hat so this pattern is very much simple.

(These are the output of my pattern that was modeled by our youth member.)

Materials:

  • Monaco mercerized cotton (I used single pull only to achieve that lacey effect.)
  • 2.20mm hook (I also used a bigger hook to make the lacey pattern look bigger and more visible.)
  • scissor

Procedure:

  • Magic Circle
  • (1st layer) chain 2 (count as 1dc), double crochet 15
  • (2nd layer) Chain 5, treble crochet on 1st stitch, chain 1, treble crochet on the next stitch until end.
  • (3rd layer) chain 4 and single crochet on every treble crochet (see picture #4).
  • (4th layer) chain 1 and slip stitch to the middle of 1st 4-chain, then chain 4 and single crochet on the middle of every 4-chain until end.
  • (5th layer) chain 2 and slip stitch to the middle of the 1st 4-chain, then chain 5 and single crochet on the middle of every 4-chain.
  • (6th layer) chain 5 and single crochet on the middle of every 5-chain
  • (7th layer) chain 6 and single crochet on the middle of every 5-chain
  • (8th layer) chain 6 and single crochet on the middle of every 6-chain

  • (9th layer) chain 7 and single crochet on the middle of every 6-chain
  • (10th layer) chain 3 and slip stitch on the middle of 7-chain, chain 3, treble crochet 3, chain 2, treble crochet (on the middle of 7-chain), then chain 3 and single crochet on the next 7-chain (see picture #8).
  • (11th layer) chain 2, slip stitch on the 3-chain, chain 6, single crochet (skip 2 stitch – see picture #9).
  • (12th layer) chain 6 and single crochet on the middle of every 6-chain
  • (13th - 18th layer) chain 7 and single crochet on the middle of every 6-chain
  • (19th layer) – chain 7 and single crochet on the middle of every 7-chain
  • (20th layer) chain 1 tc3-chain2-tc3-chain1 then sc, repeat 'till end.

  • (21th layer – 26th layer) chain 5, tc3-chain2-tc3-chain2 then double crochet, repeat 'till end.
  • (27th layer) picot-dc-picot-dc-picot-dc-picot-dc-picot-dc-picot-dc-picot, then single crochet, repeat 'till end then lock. (picot – chain 3, slip stitch on the 1st chain)

(This is the output of the my own pattern.)

(Diagram Pattern of Lace Crochet Hat)

Please forgive my attempt to make a decent diagram pattern. I am fairly new at creating these diagrams, I'm sure there's so much room for improvement. I still hope you find this diagram pattern useful.

The whole procedure takes only an hour or two depending on your speed in crocheting. You can also try to create a different design using your own pattern. Just don't be afraid. Be confident enough to try it on your own. It may be not as good as what you envisioned but surely, you will learn on the process.

It is normal to frog and rework when experimenting on new patterns. Expect a lot of trial and error in the process. It may seem impossible to come up with the perfect design you want. Don't worry about making mistakes. It will help you realize more things. Just continue and DO NOT STOP. The more patience you have, the more chances you have of achieving the conceptualized. Focus on your goal and stay motivated and positive. You know that everyone can do it, even yourself.
