Stunning Mini-Dress For Joy

in NeedleWorkMonday3 months ago

Greetings dear Hivers, I hope you all had an interesting week, as we usher in another hopeful fun, and relaxing weekend, it's been a hectic month so far, all in the spirit of Christmas, one common activity this season is everyone wanting a new dress, especially the ladies and little girls, though it is stressful completing one dress to another, all within this short period, I don't mind, as long as I keep putting that happy smiles on the faces of these little girls and ladies around me.

I will be sharing with us my latest design, a mini-length dress with exaggerated hips, this seems to be the latest trend not just in my country, as I've seen other country ladies rock this design as well. I made this beautiful dress my childhood friend Joy, we've been friends for as long as I can remember, and she visited my city to spend the holiday with her family and friends, making use of that opportunity for me to make her a dress she has been desiring for a while, getting inspiration from a style she saw on Pinterest, the funny thing is that I've also been looking forward to making this same style for myself but didn't have the time, it amazes me how I always have the time to make a new dress for others, but not myself.

The style looks like a normal simple dress to make, but like I always say, learning never stops when it comes to being creative, even though I've made similar designs before, I learned something new, known as the neckline dart while making this dress.

Materials Used

  • Crepe Fabric
  • Lining fabric
  • soft stay
  • black colored thread

Cutting And Sewing Process

IMG_20241217_172135_548.jpg

  • Using my pattern paper, I drafted the dress pattern using a bustier dart on the upper side of the dress

  • Next, I transferred the pattern, cutting it out on fabric, and adding the seam allowance needed.

  • I also drafted and cut out the back pattern, making sure to iron the soft stay on the wrong side of the fabric, this is to give the fabric more structure because the exaggerated hip line is meant to stay firm.
  • Continuing, I sewed in the darts and notched the bust area, also giving it a good press.

  • I made two welt pockets on the front just after the darts

  • Next, I joined both front and back by the sides, and also repeated all the above processes on the lining fabric.

  • I turned the main fabric with the lining fabric at this point, giving it a neat finishing

  • Finally, I drafted and cut out the cap sleeves pattern, and also sewed them around both armholes.

And that completes the making process of this beautiful dress, Joy absolutely loves her new dress, and even wants me to make her another. I hope I get the time for the extra before the holiday ends. for now I have to meet up with others i'm yet to complete their dresses.
