Happy New Week and Happy Holidays dear creative friends on Hive, glad we all made it to this week of celebration all over the world, yea, it's just 2 days to Christmas and 8 days to the start of another amazing year, in my country we are already feeling the festivity, from Christmas carols events taking place in several locations to the Christmas decorations on houses, shops, churches and even on our streets. One thing I love about this season is how everyone is intentional about being happy this season irrespective of our religion, and challenges, and I hope this happiness spreads across to you all as well and unto the forthcoming year. The Christmas season teaches us to be grateful for life, and family and never allow our challenges to take away that joy from us.
Another activity that is usually on the rise this season is making new dresses, everyone loves a new dress during Christmas here in my country, I don't know if it's the same as in other countries, and you would often find these dresses having a touch of the Christmas colors, from green, red white, etc.
This time, I made a peplum blouse requested by my neighbor's teenage daughter which she adorned to her church Christmas carol service, her mother had requested a dress for her, but she wanted a peplum, teenage children can be so fixative on what they want, so her mother had no choice than to oblige to her daughter's request, after all, it's also a beautiful and modes design and can be flexible in styling with either a trouser or skirt.
Notice the fabric used, even though it's an ankara fabric, she made sure it had touches of the Christmas color.
Materials used
- Ankara fabric
- Zipper
- cotton lining
- matching colored thread
Cutting And Sewing Process
- To make sure I manage the fabric well, the first thing I usually do when making a peplum or any flare dress is to cut out the flare part first, which I did by folding the fabric into four, then cutting out the waist radius and peplum length.
- Next, I drafted and cut out the front and back pattern using a bustier patter, the front is also cut open in the middle while the back will be sewed closed, since the zipper will be at the middle front.
- Continuing, I joined the patterns together
- and also turned the flare part using its lining pattern.
- Here, I joined the upper part of the dress to the flare
- For the sleeves, I cut out these short-length flare sleeves and sewed them around both armholes of the blouse.
- It's a two-in-one sleeve, for the second sleeve, I used a tulle fabric, cutting out a long free sleeve pattern, and passed elastic around its hem.
And here is the beautiful final look. I hope you like this design as well, just as Tolu did, she is a small size, while my mannequin is big around the bust, I managed to zip the blouse to the waist area, above all, I'm glad the dress fits beautifully on Tolu, let me get ready for my next sewing project now.
Remember to stay happy always, Happy holidays once again.

Is tulle the same as organza? Or they are similar?
This is so nice. You know I’m a fan of your sleeves and you didn’t let me down. 😍
Tulle is same as net, some call it mesh, organza is different.
Thank you Abe, I'm yours as well🥰
