Crochet and Sewing Machine Maintenance

in NeedleWorkMonday4 months ago (edited)

I finished a triangle scarf from a single skein of yarn. The half Granny square is edged with some simple picots of chain stitches.

I also spent an afternoon oiling and cleaning some of my vintage Kenmore sewing machines. Alcohol cleans up old gloppy oil. Then the oiling points are targeted with my nice bottle of oil with a long, flexible spout. A smal brush removes lint from under the feed dogs and around the bobbin case.

I worked on my main machine, a powerful model made in Japan around 1976.

I also gave some love to a machine I acquired in the 90s, made in Japan around 1980 or so. This is the machine I used when most of my children were young.

The picture below shows that machine with the needle plate removed so I could clean out lint from the underside. Many sewing problems can be prevented with some periodic cleaning and oiling.

I enjoy keeping my machines humming and helping others when they have issues. Leave me a comment if you have any questions or want to share your own favorite machines.

Preventive maintenance of the machines is the best thing, maybe you don't realise how much fluff and dirt can collect in those gears haha. I miss my sewing machine, I haven't used it in a while because I'm not at home </3
