It's been ages since my last needlework post, I can't even remember what it was, but today I'm here again with something crazy, as always.
I'm not a fan of covering the whole floor with carpets, but having a carpet under your feet has its benefits. Winter is coming and temperatures are going to drop till a point where heating will be needed and that will be the time when the carpet will come in handy. There's no carpet under my desk, so knowing that I need one made me think of the options.
The first and the obvious one was to buy one, but the fussy I am, I knew right away that going carpet shopping would be a wild goose chase, so I decided to make my own. At least there was a chance to create something unique and enjoy the process as well.
The main idea was to use it during winter and put it away for the rest of the year. This is why I decided to go with waste material as I'm also a huge fan of recycling. The other reason to choose waste materials was to create a mat that I can wash in the washing machine.
I had this huge, green rubber mat that I got with a huge carpet, serving as anti-slip material. Rubber can deteriorate in time, so it's best to use it till you can. So I thought I would use denim on both sides and as "lining", or isolation I would use this green rubber thing.
After taking the measurements I cut out a 48cm x 48xcm piece.
While checking my denim materials, I found these two pieces, that were not quite the size I needed, but were a starting point. The truth is, I wanted my mat made of different pieces, first of all because it's fun and secondly because I love the different colors. It makes the piece unique and interesting to.
Next I selected different shades, to make it colorful.
The truth is I missed sewing and this seemed like an easy project to practice sewing again. The truth is I had to think about how to handle the tread as I almost forgot.
These were the two pieces I got after sewing the small pieces together.
So after getting the 52cm x 52xm denim pieces, I thought let's make it unique with something and pockets seemed the best ides.
I had one pocket cut out but somehow it looked awful, so I decided to go with two.
This was a Levis, original. How is that for a mat?
Don't ask me why but this is the setup I thought would be right as I did not want symmetry. This whole project is anything but symmetry.
I said pockets but basically these pieces don't function as pockets as I sewed them on all sides.
And this is where the challenge began. At first I thought I'd make it like a pillow, I mean sew the two pieces together like when you make a pillow, but having the rubber mat as well complicated things a little. I had to make sure to sew the rubber mat to the denim, to be washable in the washing machine.
After some thinking the best solution seemed to sew the front part and the rubber mat together and add the back after.
This is how the front looked like at that point.
For the back, I thought I would go without pockets, but somehow it seemed like not a good idea, so I decided to add two pockets to the back as well.
This is my pocket collection. I didn't want to use the most beautiful pockets as the denim piece I got was not so nice, but didn't want to use the ugliest either.
After some thinking I decided to go with these two. A bit darker that the back piece, but still good.
And voilà! This is the final product, my mat I'm going to use during the winter.
And this is the back.
It is definitely not a piece that I would participate at the Milan Fashion Week with, but it serves the purpose, it's unique, washable in washing machine and it's recycled. Perfect for me. It was a good practice too.
So this was my fun for today 😀

Smarty pants. Literally.
Are you sure? 😃
Well, you have turned pants into a pocketed mat...Seems smart to me so, smarty pants.
It's funny cause as i read i thought... denim can be cold.. maybe some insultation would be good for the feet. Then your rubber mat liner. Then i thought, oh nice.... pockets for the feet. Then read they are sewn on all sides. hahahha
I'm fill of surprises, isn't it? 😇
Your such a creative person. You really make use of your old waste material. Nice job, that mat looks so unique and beautiful.
Thank you! Well, I try to do many things, some are good, some less good but reusing what I can is a priority.
Increíble el resultado, yo también amo reciclar y el día de hoy usted me ha brindado una excelente idea para elaborar para mí uso en el hogar, excelente trabajo.
Thank you @emmaris and I'm glad you got some ideas here, it means my work and post has not been in vain. Good luck with your project.

Thank you @mich.brmey, I'm glad you like it. Have a nice day too.
Greetings @erikah, a very original carpet, especially for the pockets, never had one like that, I guess you can serve to warm your feet a little, the different touches of blue color make it very beautiful, thanks for sharing an excellent idea to recycle the fabrics we have at home.
Happy and blessed day!
Thank you! Working with leftover pieces has its advantages too :)
I am happy to see you posting here again after a long time, your needle work look beautiful I will really appreciate if you continue sharing your needle work here with us
Thank you for the welcome. I would post more but unfortunately my time for sewing is limited. However, I may be back soon as I have a project to finish.
But I was about to ask exactly this, seriously.
So ok, I don't ask :D
Smart woman 😂
LoL 😂
What an awesome Levi's original mat, you did such neat work! I love the two pockets. I'm one of those people that want everything to have pockets. I know you said these weren't functional but I was just thinking of denim placemats with functional pockets that you could tuck a set of knives and forks into with a napkin maybe?
Thank you very mush @emma-h, I'm glad you like it. Pockets are good and useful but this time I thought it will be just to look good.
Placements with pockets is also doable, it's not a big deal. You make a design and pick the fabric, the rest is easy :)
It's good to make use of those cute stufss into something useful from your creative mind and resourcefulness. It saves also time from going out and of course money. Your work is great. 😊
Thank you! Recycling is a challenge and I love it as it has a lot of benefits.
Whoa, that looks really good. Wouldn't it be better if you didn't sew the pockets? I mean, you could put your feet in there and it would keep you warmer.
😂 Thank you @incublus, but I have slippers to ware at home. However, it is possible if someone wants it.
Yeah it makes sense right? Thanks for your answer and use your new carpet in good days!
This a creative way to save some bucks, save the planet, and keep yourself warm from winter.
Lol, all combined, isn't it? Thanks for the comment.
You're always welcome :)). I really enjoyed reading this one. It's like a 5-minute crafts but in words hahaha
Oh yes please! (Ok, I know you can't see me sitting here with my hand held up to indicate my need for one of these in my life.) Also, I can't end this comment without saying, you have a pocket collection? I'm a little jealous now.
Becca 💗
I wish I could send you one :) I mean making another one is easy, but the shipping costs could be harsh.
I have a pocket collection because I used to make denim bags and saved the pockets to put them to good use one day and yesterday that day came 😃
It would be lovely to have one but yes, the shipping is probably far too costly. At least I got to see yours though, and the bonus is that I now know that pocket collections are a thing...I'm going to start mine.
Becca 🌷
If you don't live far, I could send you one. Would be a pleasure :)
I live a long way off...About as far as one could get and still be on the planet. I appreciate the sentiment though.

this a really creative way to recycle the unuseed jeans!!
It is indeed. I used to make denim bags and now I'm selling them, mostly to the US :)
Love it, cool idea and unique mat for sure!
Thank you, I'm glad to hear that.

I did job denims wash it is so hard work
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying but if you're trying to tell me you've worked in a denim factory, then I understand as that is hard work, especially if it is manual labor.
great idea and great work! 😀
Thank you very much Tali :)
Beautiful thanks for sharing @erikah
