Happy Monday Hive Fam!
Let me ask you a few questions…
Is your closet neat and well organized? Do you have everything color coordinated? Is there a preference on which types of hangers you use?
I ask out of curiosity while in the midst of doing some major cleaning and re-organizing my closet. I try to keep things uniform but it doesn’t always work out the way I imagined.
I had my eyes set on some velvet trimmed hangers but the amount I need would get pretty pricey. These hangers are more attractive than your regular ones and they help prevent clothing slippage.
When I was selling my kiddo’s outgrown clothing at the consignment shop I had to buy tons of wire hangers (they were required). I purchased a big box of them and have quite a bit leftover. I don’t mind the look of them but it does annoy me when my silky and sleeveless shirts keep slipping off of them.
I was browsing on Pinterest and saw wire hangers covered in crochet stitches. I was very intrigued with the idea because not only did they help prevent slippage but they were so pretty. If I can make my wire hangers more effective and attractive by using up scrap yarn then why not?
Over the weekend I started on one just to see how easy or time consuming it would be.
I noticed some people would put masking tape on the end of the hook to help it stick and then crochet around the hook and hanger. For those wanting the crochet look for the entire hanger this would be a good idea but I don’t mind that the hook is not covered. Technically you only have to do the tops of the hanger to prevent slipping but I did want the entire bottom part to be uniform.
I started with a slip knot and then wrapped the yarn around my hook and hanger to begin single crocheting. My focus was keeping the same tension throughout so it would stay neat and even.
Here’s the hanger all covered in crochet…
It was a little awkward crocheting around the hanger but nothing too difficult that you couldn’t get used to. It went by fairly quick as I only did a single crochet stitch.
If you care to get fancier there are some nice designs you can take a look at on Pinterest. Some get really fancy making designs in between the hanger and others just keep it basic like I did. I’m just trying to be realistic about how much I’m willing to do. If I’m going to upgrade 20 or more of these I’m not going to have the time or patience to do intricate stitches…basic is good for my closet 😁.
Once I got around to the other side I sewed in the first side with a tapestry needle and knotted it in the back. With the last side I weaved it over to the first side a little before sewing it in and knotting…
I really like the idea of these no-slip hangers and the way they look. I may be a little tempted to try a fancier design but I’m afraid I’ll like it better and end up doing them all that way 😄. Yea, I’ll pass and keep it plain and simple. My main goal is function and to get my closet more organized with consistency.
It’s pretty amazing how the needle crafts we do can also serve in this purpose. We love making beautiful projects but we can also create life hacks that function to make tasks much easier.
Have you seen crocheted hangers before? Is this something you would take the time to do?
Oh mine 😳😳😳, this is such a thoughtful and creative idea and design,
Though I don't have hanger(I gave out the one I have to a student years ago), so now I just iron my clothes and arrange them neatly in the wardrobe.
but seeing how you design this hangers makes me desire a colour hangers on my cloth rack.
Am motivated to do something this colourful, and I'll probably mix the colours on each hanger.
Isn't it though? I fell in love at first sight of this idea! 🤩
As of now all I have is my closet, I don't have a dresser or any type of wardrobe for folding. Hanging is all I can do so I might as well make it look pretty. 😄
I'm glad you like the idea too!
wow how ingenious, I love this idea as my summer clothes always slip and fall off the hangers. Like you, I would prefer to do something simple so I can knit several without getting tired or stressed. Thanks for sharing this great idea.
Oh yes it's especially my Summer clothing too that always falls off the hanger lol.
It was a pleasure sharing, thank you ~
What a great idea!
I have mainly plastic hangers which I collect when I buy garments (and occasionally ask for a couple of spare hangers, especially the ones for jackets, when I am in a big store), but they have a similar problem for silky, slippery fabrics - the garment is more often on the floor than on the hanger.
It's really nice that the design can be as simple or as elaborate as you wish (and have time and patience for). I think hangers make a big difference to how your clothes look hanging - it takes everything to a whole new level.
I am imagining adding little motifs at the point where the hook starts ...
Ah yes, I keep a lot of those hangers I get from the store too.
It is neat how you can customize them according to time and patience. It would be nice even doing all the hangers for one particular thing like dress jackets.
Oh yes in some of the examples I saw, I did see motifs of flowers by the hooks which made them look even prettier ~ 😊
Wow this is really nice can I come and learn from you lol😅
Hahaha!! I’m glad you like it. 😄
Great idea @crosheille i never seen a crocheted hanger before!
You can actually do this now since you're acquainted with the single crochet stitch!! 😃
:) glad to hear that
What a brilliant idea to tart up these basic wire hangers !! I'm going to check out some other patterns on Pinterest now!!
I thought it was brilliant too! People think up some clever things and I'm grateful they share them with us :D
I'd like to know which designs attract you! Do you think you will give this a go with your hangers?!
What a beautiful and original idea, as well as practical because it will prevent the hook from damaging the clothes.
That's a good point @soysofia! I didn't even consider the protection of the clothing part. There have been plenty of times when these hangers have overstretched or poked my clothing.
And here I thought that had been the main reason
The main reason I wanted to try it was to keep my clothing on the hanger and to make my closet look neater and prettier. Now there are three reasons for this hack! 😃
It's the first time I've seen a hanger like this, it just looks so pretty and functional too. I don't think it would take me too much time to make it.
I love this idea, I usually organize my clothes in the closet by colors. Now I can imagine organizing the clothes by color and also that the hangers match the clothes, I think it's great.
Just imagining that the blouses don't slide around is fantastic.
Thanks for sharing this idea, I will include it in my projects to do.
Definitely, with needlecrafts we can do wonders, we can solve many things making them functional.
I think I will make them simple.
Lots of love😍
Yes, it is very functional and pretty at the same time. I think it would be fun color coordinating them with your wardrobe.
I love how we can use these crafts to make things more functional.
Good choice as I would definitely advise keeping it simple if you plan to coordinate colors. It could get very time consuming doing a more intricate design.
If you try this out please don’t forget to share it with us!
Great idea, you should get a production line going and sell them on ebay ;-)
Thanks Mark! That's not a bad idea. I do know a couple of people that live nearby that crochet too. 😁
Wow, this idea work is beautiful boss. You have just motivated me again that I can do more with needlework. Big thanks for sharing.
So glad I found this idea and could bring it to the community. The creations we can make with our hands are of many!!
Wow, I see creativity here. It's my first time seeing a crocheted hanger, such an amazing idea. With this, your hanging clothes in the closet won't fall off because of the non-slippy design you gave it with the charming yellow color, I love it.
Kudos to you ma'an💪👍
It really works wonders and makes the hanging garment look even neater. This is definitely a life hack I will be utilizing in my closet.
I'm glad you found this interesting, thanks for the comment ~
Wow,this is amazing. One thing I love about the internet is that you find whatever you want there.
This is beautiful. I really don't know how to crotchet things. My mum is a professional when it comes to that.
Maybe I will have to bring down my head to do this. Because this so beautiful
I love it too! You can find all kinds of ideas to motivate you and then make them into your own.
I thought it was very pretty too, gave a whole new life to my hanger :D
To do this you only need to learn the basic crochet stitches. I think you would have fun trying it out ~
I can't keep my eyes off them.
God bless the soul that started this idea.
Am beginning to imagine my wardrobe with different arrays of colorful hangers and outfits.
Not only does it prevent slippage but will add some light and color fo ones life.
Living in a colorful environment often brightens our lives.
Everywhere needs to be decorated in our homes I think not only the dinning and kitchen tables, here domes something beautiful for the wardrobe.
I don't have a wardrope yet but have my clothing's in a bag hoping that I will get the wooden hangers but these are way better options..
I am so grateful for creative minds that are willing to share their ideas. I could see this project in multiple colors, would definitely brighten up a wardrobe.
I agree wholeheartedly about colors and how they brighten up our lives.
Let me know if you ever give this a try ;)
I have thought about doing this a few years ago. It's on the LONG to-do list. :-)
Cool! When you get to this project on your list please be sure to share it here ;D
I remember making something similar as a child. We used two balls of yarn and somehow weaved it, but I can't remember how to do it. It was two different colors. I need to look it up and give my kids a project. 😉
I think it would be a good project for kids to do!
