For some time now, one of my favorite bags has passed away. Unfortunately I do not have photos of how it was before or how it was just when it started to peel because I decided to implement some ideas that occurred to me to recycle the bag (which did not work).

This bag used to be turquoise and had studs on the front. Having a metal knuckle with skulls gave the bag a rock style. When the fabric started to peel, I decided to peel it off completely and paint it black. Which didn't work at all, because I'm smart enough to use hand paint instead of some fabric paint. Also, the studs were already rusting so it didn't look good at all.

Desde hace algún tiempo que una de mis carteras favoritas pasó a mejor vida. Lamentablemente no tengo fotos de como era antes o como estaba justamente al momento de empezarse a pelar porque decidir implementar algunas ideas que se me ocurrieron para reciclar la cartera (que no funcionaron)
Esta cartera antes era color turquesa y tenia tachas en el frente. Al tener una nudillera de metal con calaveras le daba un estilo rock a la cartera. Cuando la tela se empezó a pelar, decidí pelarla por completo y pintarla de negro. Lo cual no funcionó para nada, porque soy tan inteligente que utilice pintura de manos en lugar de alguna pintura para tela. Además, las tachas ya se estaban oxidando por lo que no se veía para nada bien.

So that's what I did. First I made a face and since I made mistakes in some things, I corrected them to make the other face and make the first one again.

These were the steps I followed with the errors fixed:

Have a clutch to recycle.

It seems obvious, but not all bags can be lined like this hahahaha

This is a metal envelope. It has like “two boxes” that are added to a metal “ring”. I have seen multiple ideas that I will implement when I get bored of this bag to have a new one without having to buy it. I'll just take this fabric off and put another one on. You can use from printed fabrics, mostacilla, etc. You just have to make sure that the fabric you use for the base is thick enough to hold the box in place.

Esta es un sobre de metal. Tiene como “dos cajas” que van añadidas a un “aro” de metal. He visto multiples ideas que implementaré cuando me aburra de esta cartera para tener una nueva sin tener que comprarla. Solo le quitare esta tela y pondré otra. Puedes usar desde telas estampadas, mostacilla, etc. Solo tienes que asegurarte que la tela que uses de base sea lo suficientemente gruesa para mantener la caja en su lugar.

Remove old fabric.

This step was much easier than I imagined. First, you just have to grab one of the boxes really hard and then give it a yank. It has to be strong, not Hulk level but strong enough to get out without problems. Don't be scared, most of those wallets are made of metal and it is not easy to break them. Although be careful because inside they usually have cardboard to give that curvature to the interior.

Then just peel off the old fabric.

It should stay like this.

Este paso fue mucho más fácil de lo que me imaginé. Primero, solo tienes que agarrar muy fuerte una de las cajas y luego darle un halón. Tiene que ser fuerte, no nivel Hulk pero si lo suficiente para que salga sin problemas. No te asustes, la mayoría de esas carteras son de metal y no es fácil romperlas. Aunque si ten cuidado porque adentro suelen tener cartón para darle esa curvatura al interior.
Luego, solo desprende la tela vieja.
Debería quedar así.

Cut the new fabric.

Now you have to cut the pieces of fabric that you are going to use to line the bag. Measure it in the boxes and try to stick out about 3 centimeters on each side. This way you will have enough margin to accommodate it to your liking.

I used an upholstery fabric because it was the one I liked the most, but my idea was to use a short tweet or velvet.

Ahora hay que cortar los trozos de tela que vas a usar para forrar la cartera. Midela en las cajas y trata de que sobresalga unos 3 centimetros de cada lado. Así tendrás margen suficiente para acomodarla a tu gusto.
Yo usé una tela de tapicería porque fue la que más me gustó, pero mi idea era usar un tweet o terciopelo corto.

Glue from the center to the edges.

Maybe if I had used a different type of glue I could have put a layer on first and then worked on the edges. But since I used hot glue, I couldn't do this because it cooled down too quickly and wouldn't stick to the fabric. On the first try I freaked out thinking I wouldn't be able to do this project because the fabric wouldn't stay in place and would pick up everywhere.

This is how I did it:

• Put a bit of silicone in the center of the bag.
• Then stick one side little by little. Put a few centimeters of glue and put the fabric on top immediately.
  Then do the same on the other side.
• Paste the edges but only the top and bottom. It is preferable to leave the ones on the sides and the corners last.
• Paste the sides and corners: This has its trick. You have to glue the middle of the sides first and then put glue in one of the corners, and put the fabric stretching as much as possible so that there are no grooves in the fabric or strange bulges. Then do the same with the other corner. Then do the other side.

Tal vez si hubiese usado otro tipo de pegamento podría haber puesto una capa primero y luego dedicarme a los bordes. Pero como usé silicón caliente, no pude hacer esto porque se enfriaba muy rápido y no pegaba la tela. En el primer intento me asusté pensando que no podría hacer este proyecto porque la tela no se mantenía en su lugar y se levantaba en todos lados.
Así fue como lo logre:
•Poner un poco de silicón en el centro de la cartera.
•Luego ir pegando un lado poco a poco. Poner unos centímetros de pega y poner la tela encima inmediatamente.
•Luego hacer lo mismo del otro lado.
•Pegar los bordes pero solo los de arriba y abajo. Es preferible dejar los de los lados y las esquinas de ultimo.
•Pegar los lados y las esquinas: Esto tiene su truquito. Tienes que pegar el medio de los lados primero y luego poner pega en una de las esquinas, y poner la tela estirando lo más que se pueda para que no queden surcos en la tela ni bultos raros. Luego hacer lo mismo con la otra esquina. Después, hacer el otro lado.

Now, you have to cut the excess, but not literally. That was a mistake I made. What you have to do is cut 1 cm or a little more around the edges of the box and then glue them to the inside.

Introduce the boxes to the hoop.

Now you have to put the boxes inside the hoop. You want the edges not to be too thick so they can fit in but not so thin that the box won't hold in place.

You can help yourself with a hammer if you need it.

Ahora hay que meter las cajas dentro del aro. Tienes que tratar que los bordes no esten muy gruesos para que puedan entrar pero que no esten tan finos que la caja no se vaya a sujetar en su lugar.
Puedes ayudarte con un martillo si lo necesitas.

Heal the wounds.

If you're like me, this is the time to go to the bathroom and heal your hands from hot silicone burns. The truth is that I have no idea how to let children use the glue gun at school, or was it just in my time where child abuse was not something serious?

Toothpaste is miraculous. Wheat flour also works but it has to be immediate, in my case it wouldn't work because I kept making the bag and didn't run to put the flour on.

SI eres como yo, este es el momento para ir al baño y curar tus manos de las quemaduras causadas con el silicón caliente. La verdad es que no tengo idea de como dejar usar la pistola de silicón a los niños en el colegio, o ¿solo era en mi época donde el maltrato infantil no era algo serio?
La pasta de dientes es milagrosa. Tambien funciona la harina de trigo pero tiene que ser inmediato, en mi caso no funcionaría porque seguí haciendo la cartera y no corri a ponerme la harina.
