A few days ago I saw a similar blouse on Pinterest and I wanted to try to make one a little more in my style and when I started designing it I realized that I had to learn how to ruffle the collar of a shirt, as well as the sleeves.

Hace unos días vi una blusa parecida en Pinterest y quise intentar hacer una un poco más a mi estilo y al empezar a diseñarla me di cuenta de que tenia que aprender como arruchar el cuello de una camisa, así como las mangas.

I had already learned to make ruching, but for garments like a skirt, where the part to be ruched is totally flat and you don't have to modify any geometry in the pattern.

With the sleeves and necks it is not the case. I was quite concerned with damaging the fabric doing this.

Ya yo habia aprendido hacer arruchados, pero para prendas como una falda, donde la parte a arruchar es totalmente plana y no hay que modificar ninguna geometria en el patrón.
En las mangas y cuellos no es el caso. Estaba bastante preocupada con dañar la tela.

When I refer to scrunching the neck, I am not referring to the protruding piece but to the neckline, where the neck piece is sewn.

To achieve this ruching, it is necessary to play with the basic darts of the blouse. Once the pattern was modified to add the desired ruffled centimeters, these were the steps I followed for the sleeves and neck:

Para lograr este arruchado, es necesario jugar con las pinzas básicas de la blusa. Una vez modificado el patrón para añadir los centrimetro de arruchados deseados, estos fueron los pasos que seguí para las mangas y el cuello:

Sew two baste lines along the outline of the fabric

Coser dos lineas basteadas a lo largo del contorno de la tela

It is necessary to sew two basted lines along the part that we are going to gather "respecting the seam allowance". This does NOT mean that we are going to make the batting lines right on the seam allowance, but that we must take it into account. Namely:

If the seam allowance is 1 cm:

• Make the first line 0.5 cm from the seam allowance.
• Make the second line 1.5 cm from the seam allowance.

This is done so that when the final line is sewn it is right in the middle of these two lines.

They can be sewn both on the machine and by hand, whichever is most comfortable for you. That yes, it will take 2 seconds to machine. You should only take all the tension off the upper thread when you are going to baste.

Es necesario coser dos lineas basteadas a lo largo de la parte que vamos a fruncir "respetando el margen de costura". Esto NO quiere decir que vamos a hacer las lineas de bateado justo en el margen de costura, sino que hay que tenerlo en cuenta. Es decir:
Si el margen de costura es de 1 cm:
*Hacer la primera línea a 0.5 cm del margen de costura.
*Hacer la segunda línea a 1.5 cm del margen de costura.
Esto se hace para cuando se cosa la línea definitiva quede justo en el medio de estas dos líneas.
Se pueden coser tanto en la máquina como a mano, como se te sea más cómodo. Eso si, tardaras 2 segundos a máquina. Solo debes quitarle toda la tensión al hilo superior cuando se va a hacer la basta.

It is much easier to gather the lower hem because when the second hem is ruffled it is easier to sew the top second than to sew the bottom last.

If it is done by machine, it is wrinkled by moving the upper thread (the one with the needle) by pulling it while moving the fabric.

If it is done by hand. You have to pull the thread by moving the fabric.

When you have the desired one, you have to measure it with the pattern to see that there is no more or less space than desired and the piece fits well.

Si se hace a máquina, se arrucha moviendo el hilo superior (el de la aguja) halandolo moviendo la tela.
Si se hace a mano. Se tiene que ir halando el hilo moviendo la tela.
Cuando se tenga el deseado, se tiene que medir con el patrón para ver que no quede más espacio o menos espacio del deseado y la pieza quede bien.

Once the desired gather is reached, the upper thread must be gathered. This is done to ensure that the puckering is correct when it is finally sewn and that there are no wiggles. It is very important to gather with two guide threads so that it is perfect.

Una vez que se llegue al fruncio deseado, hay que fruncir el hilo superior. Esto se hace para asegurar que el fruncido quede correctamente cuando se cosa definitivamente y que no queden partes movidas. Es muy importante fruncir con dos hilos guias para que quede perfecto.

There are two ways to do this. The first is to definitively sew the result of the ruching before sewing to the other pieces. And the second is to sew to the other pieces without securing before.

Since I have had to unsew and start again many times, I always sew the final gather before sewing the rest. But if you like adrenaline and danger, stitch it all together.

Hay dos maneras de hacer esto. La primera es coser definitivamente el resultado del arruchado antes de coser a la otras piezas. Y la segunda es coser a las otras piezas sin asegurar antes.

The piece that is sewn to the neckline is very easy to make. Just cut a rectangle out of the fabric about 3 inches wide using this ruler across the length of the fabric. I joined the edges facing the wrong side of the fabric (not the right sides as is usually done when sewing). And I sewed two rough lines as in the previous steps. I gathered them in the same way and sewed the final curl the same way.

I measured the crumpled strip with the neckline, cut off the excess and sewed the piece to the collar of the shirt.

Then it is very important to pass a straight line 0.5 cm from the edge to fix the seam allowance of the collar to the rest of the shirt.

And that's how I sewed a blouse with a ruffled collar and sleeves. I hope you liked it.

La pieza que va cosida a la linea del escote es muy fácil de hacer. Solo corte un rectangulo de la tela de unas 3 pulgadas de ancho usando esta regla a lo largo de la tela. Uní los bordes enfrentando el reverso de la tela (no los derechos como se suele hacer cuando se cose). Y cosí dos líneas bastas como en los pasos anteriores. Las fruncí de la misma manera y cosi el arruchado definitivo igual.
Medí la tira arruchada con la línea del escote, corte el sobrante y la cosí la pieza al cuello de la camísa.
Luego es muy importante pasar una linea recta a 0.5 cm del borde para fijar el margen de costura del cuello al resto de la camisa.
Y así fue como cosí una blusa con el cuello y las mangas arruchadas. Espero que les haya gustado.
