Surprising My Mom’s Students With A Crochet Christmas Tree

in NeedleWorkMonday23 days ago (edited)

Hello everyone, I’m so excited to share with you all this Christmas tree I crocheted for my mom’s students. Last week, my mom came home saying that she asked her students what they wanted for Christmas and they all shouted “Christmas tree”. I asked why kids of about 4 years will all want Christmas tree because at the age of 4 I’m sure I wanted toys. She explained that the school bought a Christmas tree and when they saw it on the school compound, they came crying to her that they wanted to have one in their class too.

I was surprised that my mom even asked her kids what they wanted for Christmas because if I remember very well, none of my teachers asked me such a question. It made me understand why most of these kids always want to come home with her after school.

At first, her plan was to buy a huge christmas tree for her class but she realized that would draw attention to her class and could even put her in trouble with the school authorities.

I came up with an idea to crochet a Christmas tree. I knew I was going to make the wrap like that of a rose flower but I didn’t know how to make it stand so I went to Pinterest for to look for inspiration.

I used 2 and half balls of yarn for this tree.
I started by making the wrap of the tree. I made a long chain of about 120 inches if not more. I then continued by making single crochet all throughout the chain.

I then made three chains, skipped a stitch and slip stitched into the next stitch. By doing this, I created a hole for the next step which was the shell stitch. I then made 5 double crochet in all the holes to create the shell. And I was done with the wrap.

I made a 3D cone for the tree using hard paper.

When I was done with that, I used a glue to attach the wraps to the cone and it even turned out the wrap was too long so I had to find a way to cut it off without undoing the the whole thing.

I then made a star for the apex of the tree. I made a magic ring and then made 10 single crochet in it. I then made 4 chains and then filled it with a slip stitch, single crochet and half double crochet. I made this 5 times to complete the star.

When I finished, I was going to use pearl to decorate the tree but I remembered kids love colourful things so I made the pearls using different colors. I made an incomplete magic ring, yarned over, went inside the ring 5 times, yarned over and sealed it with a slip stitch.

I then used a glue to attached the colourful pearls to the tree and I was done. The tree was about 31cm high.

I had a very busy schedule today but I did the important things and left work to surprise my mom’s students. I’m not going to say much but I believe the pictures will do all the talking for me. The silver lining was that she also got surprised in the end.

The favourite part of the tree for me are the pearls because the kids attached it themselves. I could see how excited they got anytime they were able to attach a pearl.

I couldn’t stop smiling when I saw their reaction. I’m so happy that I did this and I believe this project was worth every minute of the three days I spent. I always wondered why my mom preferred teaching preschool to primary but after I spent the day with them, I think I understand why. Aside from the fact that I heard a lot of “Madam I will weewee” every 2 seconds, the kids were really lovely to be with. And I’m so glad that I got to give them what they wanted for Christmas. Santa indeed came early for them.
Thank you for your time.
