Amigos de esta comunidad, quiero compartirles algunas reflexiones en torno a un par de "Espigas" de trigo que encontré creciendo pegada a una suculenta a la orilla de un camino vecinal. Este post es más dirigido a la contemplación y la revisión de los significados que se asignan a esta como "inflorescencia" y como "cereal".

Friends of this community, I want to share some reflections on a couple of "Ears" of wheat that I found growing attached to a succulent on the side of a local road. This post is more directed to the contemplation and review of the meanings assigned to it as "inflorescence" and as "cereal".

1.- Espigas desde la Botánica // Spikes from Botany

La "Espiga" desde la botánica es en primer lugar una inflorescencia, es decir una manera en que las flores de una planta se agrupan a lo largo de un tallo común, habiendo muchas tipos y configuraciones. En segundo lugar el término "espiga" se usa para referisrse al grano los cereales que producen las gramineas comestibles, entre las que se encuentra el trigo. Los expertos clasifican a la espiga del trigo como una "espiga de espiguillas". (Ver enlaces recomendados)

The "Spike" from botany is first of all an inflorescence, that is, a way in which the flowers of a plant are grouped along a common stem, having many types and configurations. Secondly, the term "Spike" is used to refer to the grain, the cereals that produce the edible grasses, including wheat. Experts classify the ear of wheat as an "ear of spikelets". 2.- Espigas: simbologías // Spikes: symbols

El origén de la simbología de la espiga, se remonta a la antigua Grecia. Se atribuye a la Diosa Ceres, (inventora de la agricultura) y se asocia a la fertilidad y por extensión a "la abundancia y la prosperidad", y se representa tanto en monedas como en coronas adornadas con una o más espigas. Con el cristianismo, la espiga adquiere significados más espirituales del creyente como: unidad, templanza, esperanza, con dar frutos, entre otros.

The origin of the symbology of the spike dates back to ancient Greece. It is attributed to the Goddess Ceres, (inventor of agriculture) and is associated with fertility and by extension "abundance and prosperity", and is represented both on coins and on crowns adorned with one or more spikes.With Christianity, the spike acquires more spiritual meanings of the believer such as: unity, temperance, hope, bearing fruit, among others.
