Back Porch Sitting with Critters

in WE ARE MOVING3 years ago

All of the animals and the birds know when I am on the back porch enjoying a quiet afternoon. One by one they start showing up asking politely if I have any snacks for them. They are all so adorable with their antics, sometimes shy and other ones as bold as can be. Here are a few photos of my afternoon visitors.

Snacktime

This is little mama a young female that I think is feeding babies. She shows up every time she sees me and politely asks for her daily dose of peanuts.

Meet Rusty

We call him Rusty because of his dark nose and rusty-colored face. He is the only one with this type of marking so we always call him by name when he shows up. He likes to eat the peanut snacks right on the porch next to me. I think that is his way of telling the others to back off until he has had his fill.

I have shared posts about my little girl chipmunk before. She has been coming around for 3 years now and is very tame. She likes to come right on my lap to take the peanuts from my hand or the bowl if I am too slow for her liking.

She always stuffs as many as she can into her pouches and runs off to her den only to repeat the process over and over until I have to tell her she has had enough for one day.

Jaybird

He never sits and eats a peanut but flies off to bury them in the top of an evergreen tree and flies quickly back for more. When he has acquired a fair amount of peanuts he will actually sit on a tree limb and have a snack.

Crow

I have not given our newest arrival a name yet. He and his mate are nesting in a tall pine behind our home this year. He is becoming very familiar with the afternoon routine at peanut time. He slowly but surely wanders back and forth on the lawn watching all the animals come for a treat.

I know crows are very clever birds and this one sure is. I watch him follow the squirrels to see where they bury the peanut. He waits until they are done and makes his way to the stash. It is so funny to watch him play his games. He is making his way closer and closer to the porch and I imagine it won't be long before he comes up on the porch asking for himself.

You're the best friend Mike!

It must be fun to sit and watch their antics. So cool you've befriended them.

Every day is like having friends come and visit. And, they don't bring any drama with them, lol.

What a little cutie pie! You're lucky to have them. The city is too noisy for them, they don't like it.

That is too bad. Our home is very quiet and we have plenty of critters to enjoy @erikah. Have a great day.
