Share Our World: Goblin Valley, Utah

in WE ARE MOVING4 years ago (edited)

Yay, I finally got to go to Goblin Valley!

According to Patty Weeks, Goblin Valley was:

Designated as a state park in 1964, the small, but intriguing 5 square mile (13 sq km) park lies in Emery County between Green River and Hanksville, several miles west of Utah Highway 24. The goblins are eroded remnants of the interbedded sandstone, siltstone and shale of the Entrada sandstone, laid down on muddy tidal flats during the Middle Jurassic Period, about 170 million years ago. 2

The landscape and these hoodoos have been forming for millions of years. What is a hoodoo you may ask?

A Hoodoo is

A tall, thin spire of rock that protrudes from the bottom of an arid drainage basin or badland. 1

Here are some other hoodoos I have seen in southern Utah.

We got to the park close to sunset and wandered around by ourselves and in groups for an hour.

Three Sisters

On the way into the park you see the three sisters sitting off in the distance. I have also learned there is a hike by the same name.

Cool formations

Sort:

I could see a sea lion abd a turtle Sara, but my favourite are the mushrooms, so they're so cute!

Pauline I see the sea lion and turtle too. The other one looks like a dinosaur to me. It is fun to wander around and see all sorts of formations!

The 3 sisters and the mushrooms are my favorite. So cool. Nature is amazing.

I always think of Galaxy Quest when I see pictures of Goblin Valley, haha.

I have not seen Galaxy Quest.

Part of the movie takes place there.

I can see the turtle and probably something that looks like crocodile 😅
I really love these places and the images to view. You had a nice time viewing such a place.

I specifically like the last photo with your shadow in it lol.
The shadows seem taller than you guys actually are lol. I know this is how our shadow is.
It's just a cool place.
I could see the mushrooms. It appears more visible than the rest though even the three sisters too.

Great post-Sara, Goblin Valley is amazing and impressive hoodoos formations.
I love this one; the formations look like mushrooms.
